ganeshran Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Wrong and not just Hinduism - no religion forces people. Yes they do. Every religion forces people to follow a set of practices and warns of punishment in the afterlife if they dont.
rageaddict Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 The more educated a Hindu is, the more anti-Hindu and non-religious he or she becomes . The most aggressive anti-Hindu-ists from Hinduism come from the educated and semi-educated classes. As soon as they acquire the most minimal academic advancement, the first thing they do is become critical of their own faith . IMO , most of the Hindus feel ashamed of their history or they feel that there is nothing to be proud of in it . Distancing yourself from the faith is seen as some kind of advancement . The good thing is that this has allowed the Hindus to be more rational and get rid off the prejudices related with the religion .
Crookbond Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Yes they do. Every religion forces people to follow a set of practices and warns of punishment in the afterlife if they dont. Well, I understand what you are saying - "force" is not the right word. It is more like ransom - do this or this will happen. You still have the choice not to do it.
Sarkar Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 Problem is not the hinduism problem is thinking like some poster mentioned bit of money education and social status some hindus quickly forgot about their religion. If any one stands up for hinduism then there will be callled saffronists fanatics or what ever we hindus are our own enemies thats why mughals english dutch ruled over us .I will always remember sayings of Lord Krishna if you protect Dharma it will always protect you.
akshayxyz Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 OR they are "Free Thinkers". Atheist is a very strong word - if someone does not perform rituals it does not make him an atheist. An atheist is one who will say that "God does not exist". A lot of the modern Indians are "Free Thinkers", not atheist. A fine line but one none the less. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freethought Not accurate enough. Correct definition of atheist/atheism is reject of belief(s) in the existence of deities. There is a difference between rejection of belief and claiming outrightly that xyz doesn't exit.
akshayxyz Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Hinduism as a religion was never made to "force" people. Most Christians go to Church because they are taught that they should fear God otherwise they would go to hell or whatever. Whereas Hinduism has always taught not to fear God. Hinduism tells you to have a strong mind/ strong body/ strong intellect. Complete opposite of what you see in Hindus today. Just because you don't go to Temples doesnt mean you're an atheist. I know people who go temples out of need/fear, etc and to me that doesn't make sense. This and, for those who don't know, there have been atheist schools under hinduism. Hinduism is not as simple as other relatively nascent single-book-based-religions, it encompasses vast variety of schools of philosophies. There is no single religion which can claim to be 'true' hinduism.
akshayxyz Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Vijay.Sharma ko haazir karo. :orderorder:
Desi Cartman Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 That combined with Desibaba's assertion that husband = cleaner + cook + jamaadar all at no salary' date=' must mean Hindu mens are well and try effed :hitler:[/quote'] I believe in The Church of Euthanasia

maniac Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 ^ I completely agree with akshays point but for me when I call myself a Hindu ,I can find aspects of spiritualism, nationalism and culture all woven into one and that's a beauty of it and that's what makes it bigger than a religion....and as many scholars have said before Hinduism is a way of life than an actual sect, cult or religion.
maniac Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 ^ also just to be clear I am not putting down any other religion or making claims that Hinduism is the way for everyone in my earlier statemtn....that was just my interpretation of what I think about my religion
ravishingravi Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Wrong and not just Hinduism - no religion forces people. Not sure if this serious.
ravishingravi Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 SInce this thread has already got derailed, my question is, is hinduism even a religion ? I think not and that was its greatness to me.
someone Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 IMO , most of the Hindus feel ashamed of their history or they feel that there is nothing to be proud of in it . Distancing yourself from the faith is seen as some kind of advancement . Not totally correct. Hinduism itself is flexible in terms of thoughts and beliefs. There are many entities and really many people believe in many things within the name of the same religion. I really cannot think of any other religion which has this kind of openness. This flexibility indeed should have been the strength but in today's environment, it fails to bring the collectivism out of the religion and thus, really has no united leadership. Next, there can be atheists everywhere but circumstances/upbringing/fear decides on whom will actually admit it. In certain cultures/countries, you are taught from the start to respect only the one and severe punishment if anything negative is said. Thus, in those environment, atheists will never come out. While here, you become famous and gain instant publicity if you become "critical" of the Hinduism. It sells and thus some Hindus do that purposely. Then, it is about appreciation about the religion. This is where many another problem lies. And yoga is a classical example on how it was neglected by us but only for the western world to takeover.
BeautifulGame Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Its all good to talk this and that about the romance of Hinduism and unity but the fact its pretty hard to do when Hinduism treats nearly 50 % of Hindus as modern slaves in the name of untouchability and caste system.
Prakat Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Ya, agree with some posters here that the 'self-loathing Hindus' are so messed up that they don't see anything wrong with claiming enlightened thinking that values equality and freedom is the root of our problem and instead think that the way to fight regressive thinking is to become like them.
Tiger80 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Hindus are not much religious people. Only a few percentage of Hindu population is religious and that s y I believe islam will overtake India in the future. Europe will become Islamic continent in few decades. That s bcoz European's Christian population is not keeping up with muslim population. Few decades back, women become more liberal and the birth control started happening there. Women chose their careers instead of giving birth to children. Muslims gave no freedom whatsoever to women and they keep their population raising. They will take over Europe and I expect a huge demographic change in Europe. Women in India are becoming more liberal, thankfully arranged marriages are still happening, women are kept in control in our culture. These days I am seeing women are not getting married and choosing careers, their life style is changing metro cities. This attitude is mostly with hindu women. Muslim women hardly live like that, they have a controlled life style, men are dominant in their religion. The day hindu women become more liberal, hindu population will decline. Already christian churches are converting lot of dalits into Christians. I predict Islam will overtake Europe in few decades and it will also overtake Hindu population in India in another 100-150 years. The above is only true for highly educated urban Indians which living in metros or big cities.70% India lives in villages and many other in small towns .Those hindu's are still very much religious .Plenty of state governments are imposing stricter and stricter punishments for killing cows.If Hindu's are not religious then for whom they are doing it?

exams Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 i have seen a funny thread (quite popular) on ai forum that says that MOTHER Terresa will go to HELL:haha::hysterical:...since she is a non muslim and all muslim includind OBD will go to heaven sine they all are muslims.morever we hindus will burn in hellfire:hysterical:...i doubt islamic holy will say that..it seems to be a creation of a mullah mind,,
