Clarke would end up being regarded as better bat than Ponting by the time he finishes his career. No doubt about that. Huge respect for this guy.
Clarke has long way to go to match Ponting.

clarke is not a ftb anyone remember his ton in cape town plus he can play spin better than any non sc batsman and would be in the top 10 players of spin in the world. average of 48 when you remove draws and 52 with draws so not an ftb.

Might cross 400 tomorrow. He's good at home, but let's see if he can perform in India. I have my doubts. Clarke averages around 62 at home but 41 away. Great players like Dravid, SRT for example are above 50 in both.

He struggled in Windies.

Averages above 45 away only against England out of the big teams. 39 in India, 34 in South Africa. To be considered great he has to perform in these places, the upcoming India tour is an opportunity for him.

No long way. I feel he is almost there. After 2008 when most of the older generation retired for australia, both of Clarke and Ponting had chance to help Aus revive. That's where Ponting failed and Clarke succeeded. In any case I don't rate Ponting much. His scored extravagantly between 2002-07 only when Australia team was very strong and each one of their batsmen were piling runs. But once cushion of Langer and Hayden and assurance of Gilchrist gone, Ponting failed miserably.

What is the logic behind bringing up home/away averages, when we are talking about 4 x 200+ test scores in a calendar year..never done before!!, home or away or in any other part of observable universe?
