New Delhi: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar on Sunday, said that he feels axing Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan for the final Test against England was only part of the solution and that some others who also deserved to be replaced, survived. Speaking to NDTV on a day which say the hosts crash to England to go 1-2 down in the 4-Test series, Gavaskar said that while he expected Zaheer Khan to be dropped, Yuvraj and Harbhajan were soft targets. "If you ask me, Zaheer's exclusion was expected but I believe that Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have been made scapegoats," he said. "If you look at Harbhajan's performance in Mumbai, he got to bowl some 20-odd overs (21) and also got two wickets. If India lost in Mumbai, it was a collective failure. Yuvraj also got into 30s. If you want to drop them, then why not some of the others who have also not performed." The selectors met earlier in the day and brought in spinner Piyush Chawla, Saurashtra batsman Ravindra Jadeja and pacer Parvinder Awana for the final Test. "I think a good idea would have been if chairman of selection committee (Sandip Patil) would have gone to the dressing room and spoken with the players who haven't played some good shots to get out. Also with the bowlers. The defeat should hurt them. But sadly, I saw some of the players joking around and playing football as if nothing has happened. That's not a good attitude." Gavaskar has repeatedly cautioned against the attitude and the approach of the Indian players and has blamed it for contributing to India's defeats. He however has also said that skipper MS Dhoni does not deserve to be blamed alone. "A captain is as good as his team. I don't think we have any alternative of Dhoni at the moment. If you want to change the captain for the heck of it, then it's different."

Indian team has become too complacent after they won the World Cup. They dont have any passion or hunger to win, especially test matches. I dont expect any real change in performance unless there is a total shake up.

gavaskar is right why yuvi alone should drooped..he scored runs well above dhoni,kholi,sachin,even gambir also he is very good spinners but msd wont give him bowl though he like to give 50 over for ashwin and 50 for ohja...yuvi cant be sacked...captain remains he departs for duck

Truly the list of culprits is more than three....but it needs a big heart to make to make 5-6 changes suddenly...hence only three for starters..

Zaheer is dropped more due to fitness than bowling I think. He has a point though, these 3 were big names but there are other non-performers who've done poorer than these 2.

Hardly a big change up. Only Zaheer has been dropped for the 1st time since 2007, other 2 didn't even feature in India test team before this series.

WILL R.JADEJA shines in SOUTH AFRICA ,AUSTRALIA,ENGLAND,WEST INDIES suess no way he compete with yuvi...yuvraj deserve to get chance..,..he is better than msd ,sachin,kholi but why yuvraj alone...and also dhoni poor stactics on field placing..no inner circle fielders for spins...and also yuvraj should have bowled more overs but msd dont wants him to but he can trouble KP a lot which we have seen in past.....dhoni best captain i have seen in t20,ODI but for test we can go for VIRU atleast for this moment

While I don't think players should be lamenting too much over any match loss... I think the problem lies in the fact that our team is too jaded. I wish they would stop playing cricket for a year or so.

No .But this is not the first time it has happened.They went go karting in australia .Have some shame after defeat and practice hard.

Most of these guys despite being in pathetic form were playing CLT20 while England landed here a month before the series and played 4 day games. This shows how serious Indian team were about winning the series and how desperate England were about winning.

Shame is not inherent in all human beings.. it is a culture that gets instilled from childhood.. Culture of not compromising unless the best is achieved.. and feeling equally remorseful and guilty when it is not. Culture of shame was instilled to drive people to prosper.. from poor to middle class.. from middle class to rich... from uneducated dumbass to educated and civilized. Most of our Maharathis.. if not all.. were born with a silver spoon... they've had a pampered upbringing and have had all their needs catered to. On top of that.. our public and media have put them on lofty pedestals.. showering them with millions of dollars and unprecedented fame. So I don't understand how something like "Shame" can even be a part of their vocabulary. It simply doesn't exist. Shame is not gonna motivate them to prosper and enrich their lives.. their lives are already prosperous and enriched beyond bounds. So why bother?

I am not saying that the team should be serious all the...but seeing the players...you can understand they are not interested in playing...dont care whats the result of the game is...& dont care what the fans think.
