maniac Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 R.Ashwin,has a batting average of nearly 44.00 since his debut when most of the batting around him has been flopping. This is before the current test.His 29* might push it a little further too. Now his bowling average looks like it will catch up with his batting average very soon if he continues the same way, but do you think his batting has been good enough to earn him an extended run? i personally am becoming a fan of Ashwin the batsman. He is primarily a bowler but his ugly bowling action is a stark contrast to his elegant batting. What do you guys think?
CG Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Spinners need time .Ashwin has all the variations is tall and gets bounce.He will get better in his bowling.But his batting is good but we have to see how he handles pressure as now people expect runs.
maniac Posted December 17, 2012 Author Posted December 17, 2012 Looks like he has a better test average than Kohli atm...obviously different positions in the batting order and different situations as ashwin has more N.o's but Ashwin has been a really reliable as a batsman in recent times.

Agree...but really impressed with how he has batted with the tail so far even in tough Australian conditions...but you are right it will be different,once the expectaions increase

Yes, spinners need time and they do struggle initially, but can't recall any spinner failing like this on turners. When was the last time we saw a spinner averaging 50+ in such test series. Such performance is just criminal. Give a part-timer turner and he would come up with better performance than this.

He definitely sucked as a bowler but talking about his batting abilities.....I am not overhyping his performances....but given the fact that our batting has sucked in recent times,he has done really well with the bat. Good average and showed great temperament. My question is did he earn that extra rope due th his batting? I would say yes

Old guy Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 so to improve our batting instead of replacing non performers u will play guys who cant bowl and can bat? this is stupid logic we win test by picking wickets if he cannot pick wickets drop him or play him as batsman..if he is not good enough to play as batsman alone then u cant play him! inshort to cure our batting problem dont select bowlers who cwn bat like jadeja,chawla,ashwin just replace tendulkar,gambhir,sehwag with inform batsmen and pick bowlers who can take wickets!

CSK Fan Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Yes, one bad series is no reason to throw an upcoming youngster out. Somehow we always give a bigger rope to batsmen than bowlers. Look at how many chances UV or Raina got. Yet one bad series and throw a young bowler out?

I think you forgot Australia tour. He batted better than most batsman and even played second new ball well. he looked at ease every time he came into bat in Australia and you wont get more bouncier pitches than Aus.
