punjabi_khota Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Women wearing super short dresses is a sign of modernity? (not that I'm complaining as a man). Then tribals of andaman, africa and amazon are the most modern of us of all.:cantstop: BTW status of women in Japan is probably the worst of all developed countries. So great example. Where did I claim anything like that ?
surajmal Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Where did I claim anything like that ? right. my fault. I meant to respond to a different comment. Edit: deleted the other post. Hard to follow different posts when you are hungover.
Dumbbells Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I am not even going to bother responding to your disingenuous points, but let me just state this - For you to even imply that all was fine and dandy with women in India until the the so-called-feminists came in and screwed it for all is beyond hilarious. As a country/culture, our record on women's rights is shameful. We live in an overwhelmingly male dominated society that is characterized by utter disregard for women's emancipation. I know it, coz I have seen it myself, first hand. Arrey yaar.. u won't even believe what s happening in Indian metro cities and even in small towns.. These so called feminists, encourage live in relationships, marrying men outside of their religion(mainly hindu girls with muslim men) becoz u would not find muslim women indulging in this. These hindu women dress up like bollywood heroines and go to parties and take drugs, drinking etc. Becoz of this attitude teenage pregnancies have increased in schools and colleges. It was all fine even in 2000s but now I cannot believe whats happening in our country. I live in Mumbai and I am gonna get married in few months and I can't tell u how happy I am and I am happy I found the right girl for my life. I will allow her to dress the way she likes and with limits but I cannot allow her to get drunk and go to parties and dance half naked.

Make sure you actually talk to her before you get married about this. Don't leave it up until the last minute. Clear all the doubts you have in your mind. It's really hard to come to a understanding after you actually do get married. It's a good idea to make everything clear beforehand.

However, you seem to have conflated two entirely different things. It seems like you are implying that there's a direct causal relation b/w the outwardly liberal attitude of women and the rise of crimes committed against them. Some of the most outrageous crimes against women happen in societies where the women are still extremely traditional in their outlook. A majority of women in rural India dont go out and party all night, indulge in multiple simultaneous flings or flirt with drug abuse. Nevertheless, the abuse of women is probably the highest there. Its just that it never gets reported with the same intensity as the Delhi rape case.

EnterTheVoid Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I don't go out in the dark alone . I always carry a pepper spray and a swiss knife in my handbag.I keep my car windows up all the time ' date=Keep a big spanner under the seat where I can reach it quickly as a weapon. My husband has taught me a few attack moves to kill if attacked. That is the life of a woman in our great country. And I don't even have to travel by buses and trains because I am a stay at home mom now.I shudder when I see women in crowded buses or the ones who have to travel alone at night. Going by the above description, had you said you lived in Somalia, I would have believed you. Take care and stay safe, hopefully the process of change has already begun.
EnterTheVoid Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 BTW dumb balls, for our sake, please don't procreate anytime soon.

DomainK Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 More disturbing facts are coming to the front as the police is ready with the 1000 page charge sheet. The accused apparently planned to kill the girl after throwing her out by running her over and make it all look like a hit and run case. The male friend of the girl pulled her away at the last minute.
Clarke Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I will allow her to dress the way she likes and with limits but I cannot allow her to get drunk and go to parties and dance half naked. What if she disobeys you ? Maybe you kept a sling just in case

Sachin=GOD Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Someone recommended an interesting punishment for rapists - forcefully convert them into women and then put them into prisons for the "benefit" of the sex deprived prisoners.
Mariyam Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Female infanticide is nothing to do with culture. Its due to poverty. Sati happened only with Rajputs in Rajastan. Not with everyone. I think it is jauhar that you are talking about. That, given the circumstances was arguably an honourable practice. But Sati as a practice predates jauhar by centuries, and there is nothing honourable in it. Foricible child marriage was forced on men too.. This is nothing to do with women. Even in western countries' date= women got the right to vote very late. Don't talk as if India was the only country which had double standards. What do you mean? A prevalent practice was men who were in their sixties were married off to girls who had barely reached puberty. And this was widespread practice, across the religious spectrum. What 'forced' are you on about? Some such cases are still reported from Rajasthan. Also there are cases where old Arabs from the oil rich nations marry of very young Muslim girls from Hyderbad, for a few days. A practice, which is nothing short of rape.
