Delhi Gangrape | Four accused sentenced to death

Spiritual Guru Asaram Bapu has landed himself in a controversy over his remark that the December 16 Delhi gang rape victim is as guilty as those responsible for the barbaric sexual assault on her. ŽÃ…ŽÂ°nly 5-6 people are not the culprits. The victim daughter is as guilty as her rapists... She should have called the culprits brothers and begged before them to stop... This could have saved her dignity and life. Can one hand clap? I don't think so, Media reports quoted Asaram Bapu, as saying. According to media reports, the self-proclaimed godman further said that he was against harsher punishments for the accused as the law could be misutilised. SpeakAssaut: Enemies of women? ŽÃ…ŽÂ¸e have often seen such laws are made to be misutilised... Dowry harassment law is the biggest example, he said. The spiritual guruŽÃƒŽÃ” remark comes at a time when the entire nation is mourning the death of the 23-year-old brave heart who died in a Singapore hospital 13 days later after the heinous crime. Meanwhile, the five accused of the brutal gang rape will be produced before a Delhi court today. A fast track court in Delhi had earlier on Saturday taken cognizance of the chargesheet filed against the five accused by the Delhi Police. The court had asked the Delhi Police to produce all the five accused, Ram Singh, Mukesh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur on January 7. Delhi Police had earlier on Thursday filed its chargesheet in the Saket metropolitan magistrate court against five men arrested in the case, slapping on them murder, rape, kidnapping and other charges. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/asaram-bapu-shocks-holds-girl-responsible-for-delhi-gangrape/1055639/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A rapist at heart.Bloody sexual terrorist.
Mahatma Gandhi also suggested that a victim of rape should not resist violently and instead plead with the attacker for mercy. This is what he said:
But what about the classical instance of the defenceless sister or mother who is threatened with molestation by an evil-minded ruffian, you will ask. Is the ruffian in question to be allowed to work his will? Would not the use of violence be permissible even in such a case? My reply is `No'? You will entreat the ruffian. The odds are that in his intoxication he will not listen. But then you will interpose yourself between the intended victim and him. Very probably you will be killed but you will have done your duty. Ten to one, killing you unarmed and unresisting will assuage the assailant's passion and he will leave his victim unmolested. But it has been said to me that tyrants do not act as we want or expect them to. Finding you unresisting he may tie you to a post and make you watch his rape of the victim. If you have the will you will so exert yourself that you will break yourself in the attempt or break the bonds. In either case, you will open the eyes of the wrongdoer. Your armed resistance could do no more, while if you were worsted, the position would likely be much worse than if you died unresisting. There is also the chance of the intended victim copying your calm courage and immolating herself rather than allowing herself to be dishonoured. http://www.gandhiserve.org/cwmg/VOL074.PDF
I of course completely disagree with this notion of non-violent resistance in such situations. But I just want to point out the hypocrisy of people trashing this Asaram Bapu (and rightly so) for his lunatic views without raising a doubt on what the so called father of our nation preached.

This 'guru' might be an educated guy on the 'bibles' of Hinduism or any other fakirgiri, but he sure as hell is totally ignorant about psychopathic sexual behaviour. The problem in India is multifold and IMO, NRI opinions should not be dismissed out of hand out of some overly sensetive reaction of patriotism & protectionism ( which no doubt, is a reaction certain section of the 'patriot crowd' reflexively sink into) primarily because, NRIs/PIOs(1st gen, like myself) can compare and contrast the differences between west and India to this regard. I will make no qualms about India as a society, having massive sexual dysfunction. If i am pasted for that by the 'patriot gang', so be it, but that is my honest observation. But there are multitudes of problems in Indian society in how it handles, views and in general, reacts to sexuality and those issues have to be addressed. Lastly, about Gandhi, i think what he failed in trying to get across, was don't just go jump into a fire/well if you get raped, rape is not the end of your life, it sure as hell isn't for most western women (though you do carry an emotional scar through it, as with any truama) and it sure as hell shouldn't be for Indian women. For long, India has glorified the idea of 'pious, virtuous women' who chose to sati themselves rather than take the rape, get on with life against the violent, vicious invaders. Ah but such sentiments ( to kill youself when defiled as such) can appeal to the young, idealistic heart, it sounds rather ludicrous to the more experienced one. Winston Churchill once said that if you are not a communist when you are in your 20s, you don't have a heart. And if you are not a capitalist by the time you are 30, you don't have a brain. To some extent, this holds true. For if you think about it, our ideals have been wrong. Its not about the martyr lady who kills herself after being raped- for, that is as silly as saying 'someone hit me over the head and i got so upset that i killed myself.' Now replace 'head' with 'genitals' and the ridiculousness of the notion becomes starkly clear. In that sense, i think that Gandhi's ideals were completely wrong ( we don't need to glorify the raped martyr, but the survivor who went on to have a successful life), though he was also prone to saying what his audience wanted him to say- that is a standard qualifier for any politician, so quoting them is only so worthwhile in determining their own values

Do you look for ALL solutions about problems of life in Gandhi? I suspect you actually use none of his teachings to better yourself, and use them only to take a potshot at Mahatma. Nobody cares what Gandhi was talking about rape in 1912. That was 100 years ago, society was different, women rarely ventured out and rape was hardly a menace as it is today. Today women are going out to work, feed their family, better their own life/career and future and are held back in fear due to this. And we have "God"men suggesting why the victim should have sang Saraswati Mantra?? He should be hanged to death with his own dadhi(beard)

Gandhi said this in 1931. Also, during the riots of 1947 he went around exhorting Hindus and Sikhs to allow Muslims to cause as much harm to them and their families as possible without retaliating. And Gandhi's remarks cannot be excused because he was talking of precisely the situation faced by the Delhi rape victim and according to him she should have submitted without physical resistance. He also suggested that she could immolate herself (which is sickening to the core). If this Asaram Bapu's remarks are abhorrent today, so were Gandhi's 80 years ago.

The statement from Asaram bapu is a very unfortunate and dangerous one. The guy has millions of followers who blindly believe everything he says.
True. It is indirect endorsement and perpetrators of such crime can find some encouragement for their actions.

came across this random comment on CNN http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/07/world/asia/india-rape-case/index.html?hpt=wo_c2 luckbychance • an hour ago − Really I'm amazed at how CNN is following this case, while ignoring so many of the rape cases happening here in USA. Atleast in this case the rapists are in jail & the trial is taking place. Not like OHIO where the whole town is worried about the image of the Steubenville, rather than giving justice to the victim.

I mentioned this Ohio rape case few days ago on this forum. Reaction of that down's population is just shocking. MMS of whole rape were circulated in social media and on other hand prosecutors are finding it hard to find witnesses. From some of the comments it seems people of that town are defending boys as they represent town in high school football. There is another shocker. A very much Delhi like incident and seems like an open and shut case in the heart of New York. This case is story of botched prosecution by US police. Guys who were arrested and convicted for rape case have now filed law suit against US govt even though a vast majority of people think they were culprits. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Park_Jogger_case This case is story of botched prosecution by US police. Can you name me 3 popular International women politician in 1931?? There is a world of difference between women's right that existed in 1931 vs 2012. If you dont understand that simple bit please keep chugging along Gandhi in every thread. By the way I also suppose you drink goats milk like Gandhi had recommended :winky:
