On top of thatthey batted well on bouncy Australian pitches and showed that they have good backfoot play against the bouncing ball against decent pace. These are the types of players that I would like to play for my country instead of flat track bullies who have scintillating records in unimportant matches. We should groom these guys specially and take them in the team as soon as they are ready.

But I still say give them an extended run in the team, Let that guy be the future wicket keeper for INDIA . Dhonis should play as just a batsmen, for the future of INDIA

jairamesh Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I think both have future, but rather see them come through India A program. I understand call for Chand's inclusion, but what are you basing Smit Patel's call up on? He has only recently played his first full Ranji season.

The only way you will find the next Tendulkar is throwing them in at the deep end, having a strict pecking order might seem "fair" but it delays players development by years and they develop slower i.e. Rohit, Badri etc due to toiling away in domestic leagues and getting the odd ODI/t20 game where you are disgarded after one match

veer Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Chand has been a disappointment.. I was highly impressed by him after watching final of U19 WC and started to track his Ranji scores. But hardly made any big scores there and failed against weaker attack as well. He could be a good ODI player but seems like lacking in techniques and temparament. Btw, that final of WC U19 was the only significant perfomance he had though out the WC and failed in all other games.

Pagalpanti Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Well now that India A is due to play 2 overseas tour every year, they can surely fast-track such talents to those teams and we could know if they are ready. But yeah likes of Rahane, Tiwary deserve a go, they have been scoring runs in Ranji for years now.
