If Ashwin batted like Oijha, would he be in the team as no 1 spinner?

Does anybody here know why Ashwin was not effective against England ? Not consistent enough with line or length or was he easily picked by their batsmen ? He picked a truckload of wickets against Kiwis before. They are poor against spin but still he looked a way better bowler against them. Important question is can he bounce back and become a wicket taking spinner in tests which is his main job ?

Ojha is the better test bowler there is no doubt about that but Ashwin is a good limited overs bowler who generally keeps it tight even if he doesn't pick up that many wickets. I had reservations about him becoming a test bowler as he made his name as an economical T20 bowler. He started his career feasting on poor batting line-ups but struggled against the 1st decent batting line-up he came up against. I think he can become a decent test bowler but he has to stop working on countless variations and look to develop a good stock off-spinner and use his variations every now and then. Even if he fails as a test bowler, he can become a very good ODI/T20 player for us over the next 5-10 years.

In the recent test series v england Oijha 20 wickets at 30 Ashwin 14 wickets at 52 Yet Ashwin is seen as our number 1 spinner. He better keep scoring runs

Ashwin was doing better than Ojha in the previous two home series but once England sorted him out,he looked clueless. And despite being an inferior bowler to Ojha on current form, he may continue to get preferred ahead of Ojha especially in away tours due to his batting ability and our fragile batting unit. Needs to work on his consistency in test matches though. Tries too many variations, loses control very easily and finds it difficult to bowl a restrictive line. Also, cutting down on the thair sadam consumption needs to be seriously looked at.

Ashwin did not fare well against England which obviously was a huge factor in the series loss. He does need to be persisted with at least for another home series. We cannot keep changing bowlers after one bad series. If Ashwin fails to deliver at home against Australia, he needs to go. He still is a valuable asset in T20 and ODI teams.

Imo Ashwin is not good enough to be a frontline test spinner (unless he plays for South Africa). Harbhajan for most of his career was a far better bowler but sadly his time was up 2/3 years ago. Ashwin can be a decent batting all rounder but then his bowling will become even worse than it already is, if you can't take wickets against England on Indian pitches then you have no hope of being a great spinner.

Only if Ashwin had a better series against England.. The guy is definetely captaincy material...diplomatic and articulate....Maybe in the future? Obviously needs to cement his spot first

kind of agree here i think they can do decent job but to get set players out we will need decent fast bowlers yadav did good job in first game i think his injury really costed us .. i odnt think we are ognna have exceptional bowlers any ime soon jsut need to have a good over all bowling attack...thatsh ow we got to number 1 ...decent bowling and great batting

Personally feel he is in the team as a bowler and there must be better spin bowlers out there, batting is the job of the top 7 and if his batting is that good he should be Jadega;'s spot, otherwise get rid.
