For what it's worth I would rate Dhoni's innings above Prior, but was pointing out the inconsistencies about how the description of the pitch changes depending on the argument.

He has shown he can bludgeon any attack.Our great coach overlooked this guy and Swann. Check his ODI record first. He has played enough ODIs, has opened most of the time, 68 matches runs 1282, average 24, 3 50s. So, there is no evidence he will do well in ODIs. Even his list A record is mediocre.

Remember Ian Bell played more important and bigger inning than Prior in the context of the match. Runs were not important but time and Bell did that. Prior is talked about so much because he played 182 balls out of 858 balls England. It shows how flat was the track that England cumulatively played about 150 overs.

I6MTW Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Dhoni is the best in ODI's. Only men at present who compete with him are Amla, ABDV. Tests Prior is better. One of the best test bastmen in the world. In t20's Dhoni is better than Prior. Though I think Brendan Mccullum is better than them both in batting and keeping in t20's.

That being said, Dhoni has started playing some of those rescue knocks in tests this home season that he plays in ODIs. NZ Bangalore, England Nagpur, Oz Chennai. Yes they are at home but still they came in tough situations. The Chennai one not so much but we would have lost the Bangalore and Nagpur tests w/o his contributions.

We might have lost Chennai match too if not for his 224 and 100 partnership with BK which gave us a lead of 192. Imagine chasing 200 on that pitch in 4ht innings if we did not have that lead thanks to that record 9th wicket stand.
