Synesthesia is a genetic condition where perception through one sensory pathway triggers an involuntary, specific sensation through another. People with this condition may, for example, inextricably associate the color red with the letter "A," or the number "5" with the color green. When they see the letter "A" in yellow, it is disturbing to them. As I recall the numerous cricketers that I have watched for over 3 decades, I realize that my mind has made some inextricable connections between a player and his "signature" venue or venues. As soon as I think of the cricketer, the venue pops up in my head. Here are some examples: Sunil Gavaskar: The Oval for his unforgettable 221 that brought us so tantalizingly close to victory in 1979 and Chennai for his 236*. GR Vishwanath: Kanpur for his 52 that helped beat the Aussies in 1979 (I still remember being glued to the transistor radio listening to this one!) Kapil Dev: Tunbridge Wells for his 175 against Zimbabwe and Ahmedabad for his 9/83. More recently: Anil Kumble: The Kotla VVS Laxman: Kolkata and Sydney Rahul Dravid: Rawalpindi and Adelaide MS Dhoni: Mumbai (for that unforgettable WC final win) Any that you want to share?
