King Tendulkar Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 When did we have quality bats who delivered consistently in away conditions' date=' most of our batsmen mostly had one good test to save their averages or scored runs in second innings of test match where end result (LOSS) was just formality after their spectacular first innings collapse.[/quote'] Er Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag(yes there was a point a few years back when deliverd everywere), Gambhir(yes there was a point a few years back wehn delivered everywere).
King Tendulkar Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 As of now except pujara and sachin, there is no batsman in team who can do well in away tours. BCCI need to allow batsman to play in county matches.. Kohli can. Already has test ton in Aus. I believe rohit can as well. He should be playing now
skindia Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 future away test team should be like this..I am just giving example. Rayudu Lokesh Rahul( has good technique like dravid) pujara kohli rohit Dhoni Dinesh kartik( as a specialist batsman) pankaj singh/varun aron abu nechim/umesh yadav shami ahmed ashwin/ojha
The Dark Horse Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 i think dhoni can play well in all conditions. His odi record is excellent in almost all the countries. :cleveland:

express bowling Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Er Sachin' date=' Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag(yes there was a point a few years back when deliverd everywere), Gambhir(yes there was a point a few years back wehn delivered everywere).[/quote'] Exactly. In the current team also we have Tendulkar, Pujara, Kohli, Dhoni ( good for only no.7 in away tests, and no.6 in the subcontinent ). Rohit and Rahane have the potential to succeed both home and away in tests and would be better bets than Raina, Jaddu, Vijay, Yuvi etc. Maybe Rayudu could be decent too. We should also look for new talent who are good on the back foot, play the hook and pull well, can negotiate swing etc. Not all of them would succeed but some will. In the past also, we have produced Gavaskar, Vishwanath, Amarnath and Vengsarkar who were good both home and away. Those were the bats who made it big.
The Outsider Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 In the past also, we have produced Gavaskar, Vishwanath, Amarnath and Vengsarkar who were good both home and away. Those were the bats who made it big. Not really.
express bowling Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 but why pick Jadeja for that?pick someone who can play swing.why pick such a batsmen now who can play swing when we are not going to face that?lets play some who is best for conditions at hand and try tro win the series.worry about away later when it comes should we also play one spinner n 3 pacers who'll play in SA to get thier feet under the table?its nonsense Horses for courses theory does not work with our selection committee. Do you think that if Jaddu scores a century in India, he would be dropped when we choose our test te team for the South African tour ? Our selectors often choose test teams based on IPL performances, you can't expect them to be ultra objective. Picking 3 spinners is not a problem but the spinners should not be the types who can succeed only when the pitch is turning square. They must be decent under neutral conditions too. We should search hard for such spinners or try to develop them. . Bhuvi has been choosen to play tests in the subcontinent because he had succeeded in ODIs. Shami Ahmed, who has decent pace, control and movement has been ignored although he seems the best bet for tests among the fit pacers. That is why we need to choose players who have the game to succeed both home and away.
panther Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Rohit sharma best player of short stuff in India is 1.
putrevus Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Er Sachin' date=' Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag(yes there was a point a few years back when deliverd everywere), Gambhir(yes there was a point a few years back wehn delivered everywere).[/quote'] Dravid has one century that too in 1998 and rest of his career he was awful in SA.He had one good match in Australia in 2003 where he scored his 233 and 70 odd runs.Rest of the match he was pretty mediocre. Only Sachin to great extent lived up to billing of performing everywhere. Laxman did well only in Australia and he was never that same force anywhere else yes he had couple of good knocks in SA but those matches were more about Indian bowlers. The point being other than Sachin Tendulkar nobody in the great middle order has multiple hundreds everywhere and that is not called delivering everywhere. Given the same chances guys like Kohli and Pujara will do fine.Batting overseas for Indian team based on past results is not hard ceiling to reach for youngsters.
Marut Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 You wont get any ready made batsmen who will automatically do well overseas. Even Sachin' date= Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman took many years and away tours to adapt and do well overseas. Selectors dont have any magic wand to produce another Sachin out of the blue. All these players took on overseas tours like fish to water, though Ganguly fell behind others after the initial success. We may not get ready made batsmen today though, but these four batsmen were quite ready even during their early tours.
express bowling Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 why should we pick players suitable for away conditions while playing at home?:hmmmm2: batsmen we can do that to an extent, but for bowlers it makes no sense whatsoever I don't think anybody is asking for spinners to be replaced by pacers, in India. The spinners who are being choosen should be effective even if they get a neutral deck. Those who succeed only on square turners don't turn out to be strike bowlers in the end. Similarly, when we choose pacers to play in away conditions, it is better to choose those who can succeed in neutral conditions too.

Number Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Ideally composition of a test XI should not change much when conditions are different, except a spinner for a pacer or vice versa. But we will alter the whole bowling combination, batting order when step outside. Some batsmen will make their Test debuts in Jo'burg, fail and make way for Dhoni's players when we return back.

There's no returning back . In the next 20 tests, we play only 3 at home vs WI in Oct Nov 2014. 3 (perhaps 4 ) vs SA in SA, 3 in NZ, 5 in Eng, 3 at home vs WI and then 4 in Aus We would be lucky not to be the last ranked side in the world by the end of this cycle

For the past few years Sehwag Gambhir Dravid Sachin Laxman Ishant Zaheer Bhajji and Dhoni had always been permanent fixtures. It was always the 3rd seamer and second spinner which was the issue. That and the number 6 batsman when ganguly called quits. India are a team in flux hit by retirement and loss of form. So there will be changes till we settle down into a rhythm and find the next batch
Laaloo Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Good batsman can deliver anywhere. Hence need to pick such players. Its called long term planning. When we get raped in SA with Jadeja walking out to bat, you will soon understand. Plus quality bats who can play in all conditions, it would be good if they debut at home in more favourable conditions to get feet under table ++ Similarly, good bowlers can deliver anywhere also except if its a patta. There's no reason as to why we can't produce pitches like Wankhede or Mohali against Australia 08 again where there was help for the spinners and fast bowlers were helped by reverse swing. By producing pitches like the first test, we are basically discouraging fast bowlers. We didn't even need them in the team.
