philcric Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Indian cricket fans worst fears have come true. Dhoni-Fletcher combo has taken Indian test team to the depths most of us haven't seen in our lifetime. And both of them keep their jobs !
cricketpitch Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Coach's job is to help in strategy and other aspects like fitness and all. What has Fletcher added for the past 2 years ? Nothing unlike Kirsten who brought in a Psychologist, backed right players and gave good strategic inpurts. Coach we can appoint someone else from all over the world or someone not coaching currently. Players we have to live with what we have. Stupid comparison. Fletcher is just grooming CSK players. How do you know Fletcher hasn't done anything? Were you in the dressing room with the players? Players should be capable of carrying out the strategies discussed in the dressing room. The Indian team has been poor with out of form players and injured bowlers. Yes it has been bad and I am not defending him but I don't think you can blame Fletcher for India's debacle over the last couple of years. It was a collective team failure, one person cannot be blamed.

Please look at Indian test history. :)

It's like saying that either do complete overhaul or change nothing. Their is lot of room in middle of 2 poles.
Number Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Indian fans have short memories, under the so called great Kirsten we lost 6 super six matches in world t20 where as under Fletcher we won 2 out of 3 and almost reached Semis.
Cevno Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 The very fact that back in 2000' date=' Jaitley agreed to be the candidate of the chor group of DDCA (CK Khanna, Sunil Dev, Tihara etc) fighting against Bishen Bedi who was leading a group of players to change things at DDCA shows where his priorities were. Things have got worse under him with goons running the show.[/quote'] If it wasn't him someone else would have stood and won probably. Yes, DDCA is bad but it was bad before it too and has been for dogs ages. It has actually got better right now even if slightly. I am sure he won't be worse than Srini atleast, as he is accountable to an extent unlike Srini who had all sorts of conflict of interests. If Jaitley does something like that it will get raised in parliament amongst other things. Though, yeah he is no saviour either. Dodgy politician.

It's like saying that either do complete overhaul or change nothing. Their is lot of room in middle of 2 poles. He is the DDCA chairman and will become the BCCI chairman. His performance as DDCA chairman is what I am talking about
philcric Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 How old are you? We have seen worse times than this. Please look at Indian test history. :) Care to point out what's the worst you've seen of an Indian test team ?

It's like saying that either do complete overhaul or change nothing. Their is lot of room in middle of 2 poles. Dravid, Laxman, Tendulkar (ODIs), Zaheer, Sehwag, Gambhir, Harbhajan - talk about change.
vvvslaxman Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Care to point out what's the worst you've seen of an Indian test team ? would like to see the worse as well.. 8 back to back overseas loss in the following order 196 runs 319 runs innings & 242 runs innings & 8 runs 122 runs innings & 68 runs innings & 37 runs 298 runs :hysterical: Freaking minnows would have done better job in any part of the history.
Laaloo Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 ESPNcricinfo ✔ @ESPNcricinfo 8-0, a 2-1 home loss against England, and ODI losses abroad notwithstanding... Duncan Fletcher gets an extension as India coach Aakash Chopra ✔ @cricketaakash So, all assumptions about Fletcher were grossly misplaced. He's indeed contributed to this team's performances. Contract extended by a year! Aakash Chopra ✔ @cricketaakash Expecting a comment on 'Dhoni's hand' in Duncan's renewal of contract soon :)
saneindian Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 Team performance under Fletcher: Tests WI - Won 1-0 Eng - Lost 0-4 WI- Won 2-0 Aus - Lost 0-4 NZ - Won 2-0 Eng- Lost 1-2 Aus - going on 23 tests, 8 won, lost 10. 7 Series played, 3 won (likely to be 4), 3 lost Highlights- Home series loss, back to back whitewashes ODIs 9 series played, 5 won, 4 lost, no multi team tournament win, no away series win either Highlights- Home series loss to Pak, CB series and Asia cup loss. With Dhoni at least it can be said he led the team when it won the WC and became no 1 in tests. With Fletcher? being a yes man is his biggest quality which is perhaps being rewarded.
cricketpitch Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Care to point out what's the worst you've seen of an Indian test team ? Just look up in the 90's when India toured overseas. You will know what I am talking about. India did not win a test in Australia till 2003/04. We had a record of 7-0 in 8 tests. In the 90's we weren't traveling a lot overseas like we do today. If you think India's 2-1 loss to England is the worst at home, go back to 2000 when South Africa defeated India 2-0, the same year India were drubbed 3-0 by Australia in Australia. That 2-0 is bad because Indian hadn't lost a home series for more than a decade and that team was much stronger than the current Indian team. I can give you more examples. People who had endured a poor Indian team of the 90's and before will not find anything shocking. People who started watching games in the last 10 years will say this is the worst phase.
I6MTW Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 The reason for the 0-8 loses was not because of coaching or captaincy but rather of lack of form on our team players. Dravid, Laxman, Zaheer, Sachin were at the end of there careers. Bowling lineup was very poor. So Dhoni could not do anything about it. Our form continued in aus tour. And in our home loss to Eng we were over-confident and our players didn't perform as they were expected. Now our team is going through a transition phase where we have tried a new combination and it is working. So rather complain about the contract extension. What if we perform well with fletcher in SA? Think and give him another chance and see if this performance against the aussies tour is temporary or that Dhoni and fletcher have finally settled. If the former is correct then the sacking option is always there. It's not like BCCI didn't think about sacking before. In Dec there were discussions going on about whether to renew his contract or not. They might have given this series as a last chance for fletcher to see what he could do. He has done well this series so he is getting another chance. If he fails he will be sacked definitely or will not be renewed after next year.
