They call themselves Iranian. Its similar to the Khoja community who also claim to be Iranian. (though most parsi people dont consider khoja to be iranian) Gujarati smaller traders are probably the brokers. But as far as overall shareholding pattern goes its marwadis like Jhunjhunwala and various other parsi trust funds who control the local side of the market. But the bulk of the control now a days comes from foreign investment funds. As far as Gujaratis go i think Ambani aside there is nobody in Mumbai who is Gujarati and is an industrialist or big. The rest all of marwadi or Parsi. The Khojas, by and large do not claim to be of Iranian descent. They are recent converts to Islam ( Twelver Shias) from the Hindu warrior castes in Gujarat and Sindh. Its their religion, and their corruption of Gujarati which is Persianized, but not their ancestry.

Probably explains why the parsi people dont consider them iranian
