From what i read (certainly not the most neutral source ) ' date=' Tamil hasnt been accepted as a official langue and tamils are forced to learn Singalese.[/quote']Why don't you use reliable sources to educate yourself than lie mongering pro-LTTE websites. 1. Tamil is a national language http://www.languagesdept.gov.lk/ 2. All Sinhalese government servants have to pass a tamil exam and vice versa. And this is a results sheet of the exam for a group of nurses. http://203.94.76.60/Exam/Results/2013/NursingIIB-2010.pdf

the number is for 20 years from 1991-2011. And where did these attacks occur? I don't condone attacks on fishermen but what was the trigger for the current protests? Except the fact that elections are round the corner
1991-2009 was a time where LTTE suicide boats were roaming in the Nothern seas. Whom ever suspicious were attacked, and some of the attacked boats may have been Indian, and some of them have been carrying LTTE terrorists. But during conflict Indian fishermen should known well that crossing the border means disaster.

Yoda' date=' I understand the emotional tie to your community but at some point of time you do realize they are not your country fellows do you?[/quote'] Nationality is a new concept and it will take time to form a national identity. Same thing the Muslims do when their lot is killed in Palestine etc even though they are not same nationality-wise and unlike the Tamils, also not the same ethnically.

Too much ignorance in the thread 1. SL discriminated tamils for the sole reason they were from Tamil Nadu. 2. As soon as they got independence they kicked out a lot of Tamils back to Tamil Nadu 3. Lots of TN fishermen have been killed over the years. Those provide enough reason as to why Tamils in Tamil Nadu need to be sympathetic to their cause. LTTE where thugs but that is not a reason to allow discrimination and human rights violation to continue against tamils 4 years after the war is complete. So fellow Indians need to get behind us :dance: Whether this is right or wrong, a state in the country cannot be given a :finger: for a foreign country. So good decision by BCCI thugs :haha:

So the Sri Lankan players wont be playing any matches in Chennai. What about the first couple of knockout matches that are scheduled in Chennai. Imagine a team like Delhi or Mumbai having to sit out Mahela or Malinga.

1. There's no discrimination for Tamils, at least legally. And most of the Tamils in Noth SL claims they are not from TN! It's only Tamils of central highlands claim that. 2. Tamils were not kicked out but sent to India on Sirimavo-Shasthri pact. 3. TN fishermen poked their nosed in an area where suicide boat attacks were prevalent. Any one not obeying orders of SL Navy were shot down. On other hand, a lot of SL fishermen were arrested and sometimes shot by Indian Navy too. And 99% of these are Tamils shows the hypocrisy of TN.

This is why India is not a real country yet, just trying to be a real society.

Can a state govt. hold central govt. hostage ? Can't central govt. ensure or guarantee the security of SL players in any part of the country ? What does this say about the so called federal structure of India ?

Not to be pedantic, but law and order is a state subject. You cannot just randomly send some federal security forces into a state.

India finds itself in bit of a conundrum. Pakistani players are banned or not bought cause of political issues. Sri lanka players are bought despite political issues.
I think the logic is Pakistan is harming Indian citizens, so boo Pakistan. Sri Lanka is harming their own citizens, meh we don't care (unless "we" are Tamilians ofcourse). :dontknow:

I hope Shiv Sena doesn't take a cue from this and ban Bihari players from representing CSK in Mumbai :cantstop:

It all depends on who controls the police force. If the police is ultimately fedeal (or has federal police branches), the center wins. If the state is the ultimate actor in policing, then the center is SOL.
