Gautam Gambhir diminishes M S Dhoni's Team India triumph over Oz?

Out-of-favour opener Gautam Gambhir has lauded M S Dhoni's Team India for its 4-0 triumph over Australia in the recently concluded Test series today, but stressed on the need to win abroad in order to be recognised as a force in world cricket. The controversy is already raging, where many have pointed out that India is unbeatable at home and Gambhir's hint at India not being a global force just adds fuel to the fire. "Unless a team wins overseas, they are not recognised as a force. I have always believed that winning in overseas conditions matters a lot. I am happy that we have done well at home. There is nothing wrong in using home advantage as every country does that," Gambhir told reporters at a promotional event here. "But look at South Africa. They beat Australia in Australia and England in England. Actually, they are the No 1 side in the world," he said. "My personal aim has always been to be a member of the overseas Test series winning squad and score runs in team's victory," Gambhir said at the launch of a new cricket portal CricLan.com. Gambhir, who has just started training after recovering from mild jaundice, said that "form is a state of mind" when asked about his century plus score in a first-class match versus Aussies and 60 plus score in a T20 game against Punjab. "For me, form is always a state of mind. If you are confident and fearless and ready to express yourself, that's what matters the most." The stylish left-hander also supported BCCI's move to have a proper India 'A' team's tour of South Africa before the senior team goes there at the end of the year. "It's a good thing that India A team will be travelling to South Africa. This tour will give the players fair idea about what to expect when the senior team goes there. Normally, when we go to South Africa, we play a couple of practice matches and by the time we gauge the pace and bounce of the wicket, the Test series gets over. So it's a welcome move."

bud if u saw them u will know how he got those runs and in how awful form he was.. do u think english were bowling some magical deliveries to gauti ? most of times he got out himself and people are making it sound like batting was very easy vs the aussies? imo atleast for openers aussie attack was as good with pattinson,siddle and starc vijay did very well give credit where due.. and that inning of dhawan was brilliant even sehwag on current form cannot play like that forget gauti

And that might be your mentality of being jealous when the team performs. Follow his other tweets, do your homework and then comment. Nothing wrong in what he said. Should cherish the 4-0 as its big after the tough times we had before it but performing oversees, winning 1-0 in SA is much sweeter than winning 4-0 or 5-0 at home.

There's actually nothing wrong in what he said. He wasnt trying to diminish India's whitewash and he said that he was happy with the win. But only when the team wins overseas, they will be regarded as a great team. The great Australian and West Indies teams wouldnt be regarded so great if they only won at home. The current Aussie team has also been doing pretty well at home. Only the SA team is doing well both home and away and hence they are rightfully the No.1 team.
