Raghav_12 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Could India/BCCI have made better use of J. Srinath with even better coaching/guidance and talent development? He never realized his full potential. So true. Match referee role that he took later on was further waste of his talent. why the hell a top fast bowler should be a match referee, when there is absolute dearth of ppl who can take care of young pacers.
sivanand82 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 The topic should be changed to Is Srinath the only Fast bowler India ever produced?
Lurker Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Yup. That was the only time I have ever seen a batsman slagging off a fast bowler after being hit. And Srinath just turned around and walked back to his bowling mark with his head bowed :(( Here's the clip of the incident... Actually this video is a terrific example of the change in fortune (read display of false bravado) of batsmen thanks to helmet revolution. If Ponting was barehead he would be on his way to pavillion on a stretcher instead of having the "courage" to mouth expletives. What makes it very fascinating is that Ponting was one of the top 3 batsman of his generation, and probably the best when it came to hooking
Vilander Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 another thread driven to shyt by 'the erstwhile bowlers were x times greater than present' brigade lol.
Muloghonto Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 another thread driven to shyt by 'the erstwhile bowlers were x times greater than present' brigade lol. they were. Nobody,i repeat, nobody today has the same level of fitness fast bowlers from the past did. Few examples: Malcolm Marshall ( career span: 1977-1996, 20 years): 327 FC matches, 81 tests, 440 limited overs matches. That is: 81*5+327*4+440 days of cricket in 20 years = 2153 days of cricket or 107.6 days of cricket per year. Wasim Akram (Career span 1985-2003): 19 years of cricket: 104 tests, 153 FC matches, 594 LO matches = 1726 days of cricket or 90.84 days of cricket per year. Frank Trueman (Career span 1948-1969, 21 years): 67 tests,536 FC matches = 2479 days of cricket or 118 days of cricket per year. Modern bowlers; Dale Steyn: 2003- present (10 years): 65 tests, 43 FC matches, 122 LOI matches and 109 20/20 matches = 728 days of cricket ( including the 4 over 'quarter days of 20/20 as 'full days') or 72.8 days of cricket per year Zaheer Khan: 1999- present ( 14 years): 88 tests, 70 FC matches, 253 LOI matches, 96 20/20s: 1069 days of cricket or 76.35 days per year. James Anderson: 2002-present (10 years): 80 tests, 67 FC matches, 220 LOI matches, 40 20/20s: 928 days of cricket or 92.8 days of cricket per year. As you can see, virtually ALL pacers back in the day were significantly fitter than the pacers today. This is wh we had so many pacers in the 70s,80s and 90s consistently generating 90mph speeds through their entire spells and being rightly, considered as part of an era of pace that was significantly superior to what you have today. So come back to us when you find a modern bowler who is as fit as the previous ones and then we can talk. Till now, only Dale Steyn qualifies as a pace bowler of quality from 2000-present day,but he has only had to endure 70% the workload of most bowlers from the previous years. So yes, pace bowlers from the past were superior.
Vanarp22 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Kapil's avg was about the same as Srinath's. So Srinath could be considered the best fast bowler India ever produced but Kapil would at least be a close second in that case. This is purely based on stats, no bias or anything.
Trichromatic Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Kapil's avg was about the same as Srinath's. So Srinath could be considered the best fast bowler India ever produced but Kapil would at least be a close second in that case. This is purely based on stats' date=' no bias or anything.[/quote'] Purely on stats, Srinath won't be close to Kapil Kapil : 59 matches, 238 wickets at avg of 27.91 and SR of 53.9. 5 wickets haul - 18, 10 wickets haul 2 Srinath : 67 matches, 236 wickets at avg of 30.49 and SR of 64. 5 wickets haul - 10, 10 wickets haul 1
Muloghonto Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Kapil's avg was about the same as Srinath's. So Srinath could be considered the best fast bowler India ever produced but Kapil would at least be a close second in that case. This is purely based on stats' date=' no bias or anything.[/quote'] Kapil had a knack of doing extremely well against good batting lineups and in Australia. he's definitely world class against an alltime great batting lineup like the Windies of the mid-70s-late 80s and he was excellent against the Pakis, who had a very good batting lineup (no real alltime great batsmen but several extremely good ones), despite the fact that the Pakis blatently cheated in the 80s in Pakiland, especially against us. The only real blemish on Kapil's record is against the English, where he really should've done better IMO, with his style of bowling. However, i think players who've done well against the best of the best in their eras deserve a bit more latitude than the ones who've made merry against substandard opposition, only to crap themselves against the best of the best ( Botham, Willis, Kallis, etc. come to mind). As such, he's a step ahead of Srinath for sure and IMO, he is in the same bracket as 'extremely good but not great' bowlers like Walsh, John Snow, Jason Gillespie, etc.
Subeshkumar Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Srinath Was The Best Ever Batsman India Ever Produced And Havent Got Such Bowler Yet
WillowLove Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 to me, he is the only genuine indian fast (not medium fast) bolwer to have played the game for 5+ years at international level. I just wish he had that ball leaving the right hander, he would ended up in the 400+ wickets..According to Imran, he is one of the most under-rated bowlers ever from subcontinent. felt good for a while that we had someone who clock 90+ miles constistently... :) comparing srinath to kapil is comparing apples to oranges in my opinion. kapil was never fast, he was medium fast through out his career, obviously we are not talking about effectiveness but purely talking comparing to srinath as a fast bowler.
alexander Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I guess he was good by Indian standards. But for your best pace bowler to average over 30 and have a s/r in the mid 60's is not impressive. I must be frank, whenever I saw him bowl - he got hammered.
adi B Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 at home Srinath..overseas Zaheer. this but kapil undoubtedly was the greatest..zaheer is mediocre at home, while srinath was menacing.yadav will bethe best ever when dhoni goes away

Overall, both are average bowlers averaging ~ 30 with 60+ s/r.
Vijy Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I'd plump for Nissar actually. Dude never got many chances but it was hardly his fault. And he played against the lineup involving some big names in English cricket.
vayuu1 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Did you mean Hyundai? WTF is a Kyun-Tha? Perhaps Kunte? It mean u moron then Why did u watched him. sent from dil se
alexander Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 It mean u moron then Why did u watched him. sent from dil se I'd watch the match you fool. Sadly, that means suffering through bowlers like him too. You and you alone think Srinath was a quality pacer. Ditto Kapil Dev who was barely a medium pacer who played so many games he had to collect take wickets!
