Crookbond Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 You are right about it becoming a more common phenomenon - perhaps trying to copy the Aussie aggression' date=' can't say for sure. When I was actively involved in cricket in India in the mid to late 90s I noticed a difference in culture between the Lucknow under 19 and Panjab University teams - firstly the [b']Panjab University team was a lot tougher to get into, but once you were part of the team it was every other team player backing the other, even if you have clearly done something out of line. In Lucknow Under 19 one would get internally rebuked for actions, but in PU team the general attitude was - "appa bhund nahin maarte, je ho gaya jaaan de". Can't say which was better - personally I enjoyed PU more. Off topic - why is Punjab referred to as "Panjab" in some contexts? :dontknow:
Lord Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Off topic - why is Punjab referred to as "Panjab" in some contexts? :dontknow: there are two PUs,one in Lahore n other here in Chandigarh.the one there is called Punjab University, this one is called Panjab University AFAIK
Number Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Kept himself cool after that last ball yesterday. Even someone who is not half as temperamental as him would have planted a foot in bowlers bum.
The Outsider Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I know mate - just that making abuse as everyday parlance is quite unique in the northern part of India. It is quite natural for people not used to it to take offense. Appa bhund nahin maarte offence di. :mama: Off topic - why is Punjab referred to as "Panjab" in some contexts? :dontknow: I think only the university is named as such, probably to distinguish itself from the original Punjab University in Lahore.
Magneto Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 3rd match - Got fined 4th match - Got warned 5th match - 6th match - Swore at his younger teammate and behaved so pathetically that half of the ICFers on the match thread wanted to join AVKC. :giggle:
saneindian Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Throws too many tantrums around. And to me much of those theatrics look fake as he knows the camera is on him. From being a supporter of Kohli as a new young Indian captain, I now have my serious doubts even though captaincy seems to have got him his best IPL season so far. Hope to see him mature by the end of the tournament though.

The likes of Waugh,Ponting,Ganguly etc never behaved obnoxiously towards their own team mates....In terms of 'agressive' I would put him in the league of Afridi...All said and done,is a terrific player though but not the kind of captain we need.

In any case, this whole point of aggression is just factitious.
cowboysfan Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 he is still very very young,i actually like his passion for winning as a captain.
someone Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 he is still very very young' date='i actually like his passion for winning as a captain.[/quote'] And nobody likes this passion when he is losing. That's the problem. In losing situations, he needs to learn how to react. That defines a good captain.

That defines a good captain. make that "Prezzure situation", as long as the team is doing well, he looks fine, the moment team is under prezzure, he seems to lose it, at least the good thing he regains his composure back quickly, which to me suggests some of the theatrics is indeed fake.

Fake written allover his face when he does that.
