Guys, Mendis doesn't need a dust bowl.He doesn't spin the ball that much anyways.It's the mystery aspect.Gayle has struggled in the past to read Mendis's variations. (Not saying Mendis would have won Pune the game,Kohli would probably hit him all over the park :(( .)

That is not the point. How come others are not able to do what he does. Producing these monsterous overs for fun. Did it in Australia. Did it in England. Pollard is a big hitter too, Yuvraj is a big hitter too, Closest i can think of is Jayasuriya at his peak where he could even tonk bowlers like Akhtar for fun on good batting surface. Certain degree of skill involved.

I am a bowler and if I want to get a wicket, I would change line and lenghth and would ask batsman to play cross or different shots to find an edge or something. But thing with Gayle is, he looks to play every ball "Straight" Even anything on leg or off he would try to play with the straight bat. STRAIGHT bat STRAIGHT bat STRAIGHT bat He doesn't try to play too cross. That's the key of him progressing and being so consistent even in twenty20. It's a format where not many remain consistent. His thing is he has had patience and has been extremely straight. You won't see him play much flick shots. He would offcourse hit the short ball over the fence, but mostly he will play all straight.

His connection percentage is very very high. Hence his success. It comes natural to him.
