vvvslaxman Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWaob3ZBIAU]Yuvraj Singh on fire brilliant 138 runs in just 78 balls - YouTube[/ame] Here is another example of timing and power.. Here he dominates some premiere bowlers not noname bowlers.
rkt.india Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Great skill and temperament. Temperament to play out decent balls and few overs. Skill to go ballistic against average bowlers. A lot of batsmen have skills, but still they cannot even play like this even in their dreams even against average bowlers. He hits sixes like he is taking singles. It is the power he possess is a great asset. West Indians are naturally strong, quick and powerful, but he has added muscle power to his natural power by constant gym work. Look at Pollard, he has natural strength too like Gayle had, but he does not have the muscles of Gayle, so he lags behind Gayle. Gayle is a body builder.
rkt.india Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Yusuf pathan also plays straight lol. But he rarely times it like Gayle does. Yuvraj and Gilly are the closest to Gayle in this area. Timing and power. Pathan used to play straight but not anymore. For last 2-3 years, he has started playing too across, everything on the leg side whenever he tries to hit big shots and gets out top edging. Remember, Pathan also has a 37 ball 100 in IPL against Mumbai and that was the time he used to play fairly straight. It is all about brutal strength and full face of the bat. Gayle has tremendous strength, all the result of his gym work and he is tall so he has a big reach.
philcric Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Power and timing of course. His reach both in front of the wicket and side of the wicket. Still head, holding his shape while hitting,, makes him less prone to mishits. He also has a great ability to judge the lengths and pace of the ball quickly, he hardly ever gets beaten by slower deliveries. From what I've seen only two things seem to bother Gayle. Short bowling at high pace into his body (neck or head high ... bowlers like steyn, morkel, nannes if they bowl well can trouble him) or clever off spinners like Ashwin, Narine, Ajmal.
Crookbond Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Gayle simply has great "ball sense" is what Cricketics is saying and I agree. AB DeVilliers is another fella who has great ball sense but lacks Gayle's strength.
diga Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Gayle's T20 average is better than all other formats ....:hysterical:
Sachin=GOD Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 "See the ball, hit the ball" - thats why Gayle is such a good player.
India-KXIP fan Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Maybe cause everything he touches goes for a six! :omg: 4 pound bat, 90+ kilo bodyweight (mostly lean) and he probably has good timing like most test triple centurions. Power, timing and a BIG farking bat= everything including mishits going into the stands!

Zelig Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Some of the biggest hitters are from WI :hmmm: 1. Gayle 2. Dhoni 3. Kevin Pietersen 4. Albie Morkel 5. Shahid Afridi 6. Pollard 7. Watson 8. Samuels 9. Warner 10. UV 11. Sehwag 12. Darren Sammy 13. Dwayne Bravo 14. Alex Hales 15. Brendon McCullum
21cent Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Gayle is just power. Also the bowling he is facing is some *****y Indian domestic line up with some average at best foreign players. Of course he is going to rape them. No way he can play innings like this against good bowlers. Vaas used to dominate Gayle. Some IPL team should hire Vaas just to take care of Gayle. http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/344223.html
thongale Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Even Kulasekara do that. Very accurate medium pacers are success stories against him.

Swing_n_Speed Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Gayle is a combination of height, power, technique, amazing reflexes and to that dangerous mix add skill :hatsoff:
India-KXIP fan Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Hopefully :kxip: get Gayle next year after reshuffle :yay::yay:
anotherhawkeye Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 I would hate that. Players need to stick to the same teams.
Zelig Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Watched Smith bat last night. His sixes were effortless. Who do we replace in the list:hmmm:
