He has turned the ball more than any Indian leg spinner I have seen and that is the biggest skill a leg spinner should have. Other things can come with experience. He has better action than leg spinner in India. Shane Warne did not many variations too. If you can turn your leg break, you dont need them.

He did develop a flipper and googly later on in his career but they were no means as good as Mushtaq and Kumble had. He would only kepp it straight and that worked for him because he could turn his leg break. Kumble had a great flipper. These variations depends on the kind of action one has. Front bowlers will have better googly than leg break likes of Mushtaq, Chawla. Karan Sharma too has flipper if you have seen his bowling closely which hurries the batsman. This guy needs to be groomed. Far better than Chawla.
