saneindian Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Both Gambhir and Sehwag two biggest threats to Dhoni's captaincy out of the way now. This is all Dhoni's team from now on. No further excuses on indiscipline, groups in the team and all that crap. Lets see what this team under Dhoni is able to achieve.
Raghav_12 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 timely scheduled by BCCI :giggle: .. just after CT humiliation, Lankans will be needed more than ever to save the captain's ***. :giggle: :hysterical::hysterical: Not only captain but to give confidence to many other players :giggle:
saneindian Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 They have also announced a list of probables for WI tri series! Has to be a first, now I am sure in the BCCI scheme of things, that tri series counts for more than the CT. The 21 probables are: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Irfan Pathan, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, Vinay Kumar, Manoj Tiwary, Praveen Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Ambati Rayudu, Rahul Sharma and Gautam Gambhir. Rahene and Pujara are not in this list either. Most probably going to SA A tour in July.
kubrickian Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I cant believe some people here back Gambhir after all those failures in 8-0 and the test series and ODI series against England at home. He is only good at scoring runs on slow, low tracks. Once the ball raises above waist high or even moves around a bit, he is a dead duck.
Crookbond Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Rahane dropped for Vijay? Rahane did well in England during his debut series , has done better than Vijay in IPL and yet no place for him? Same way 3 spinners for England? Or has Jaddu been picked as a specialist batsman? Should have dropped Mishra to pick Shami. Mishra and Vijay will be bench warmers for sure. Ad Dhoni will pick Irfan ahead of Jadeja for the all rounder's spot. So the 11 more or less picks itself. Likely 11- DK, Dhawan, Kohli, Rohit, Raina, Dhoni, Jaddu, Ashwin, BK, Ishant, Umesh Bench - Irfan, Mishra and Vijay I will be happy if wecan win one match in the group stages. If that's so; how come Irfan doesn't make the 11 and Jadeja makes it? :hmmm:
Crookbond Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 TomMoodyCricket: Thrilled to see Mishra, Dhawan & Ishant in the Indian ODI squad for Champions Trophy all well deserved. #SRH
vishalvirsingh Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Murli Vijay and Irfan Pathan shud not have been Picked.... Rishi dhawan and possibly Rahane Should have been picked Shammi Ahmed Missed the Bus bcos KKR did not give him enough chances
yoda Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Vijay rewarded for his test performance against aussies, understandable. Not sure if he can do well with the moving ball, DK may be a better opening option. DK rewarded for IPL performance seems like cause they did not have any international performance to go by. Mishra can be good if he can keep a tight length, however he bowls too many gimme short balls. Rahane given a raw deal in ODIs. May be his recent poor attitude/shot selections cost him his spot. Nevertheless very harsh. Yuvraj is not fit for international cricket yet. He needs to take a longer break and come back fully fit mentally and physically and be ready for 2015. Gambhir, I have no sympathy for. The guy has done nothing to come back to the side yet since being dropped due to a poor run of form.
Rocky Balboa Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I still can't believe they dropped Shammi ahmed. He was swinging both ways against England in the ODIs and he was the best bowler in dat series. Why was he dropped? ******* selectors forgot dat Vinay kumar is already 29 and has no future playing for india.
yoda Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Vinay kumar has been very ordinary in the past internationals, not sure we should expect anything better from him. I would have preferred if they tried someone new like Mohit cause he seems to be able to move the ball even in Indian conditions. Irfan hasn't done much in domestics or the IPL to earn a recall. However, he can still be the elusive all rounder we need if only he can get back to even 70-80% of his 2004 form.
CSK Fan Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Over the years dont mean jack when they are not in form. What you are saying is a mistake of selecting players based on reputation and hence Sehwag and Gambhir were persisted for so long and hence India had to lose many games. Its funny how people protest that non performing players have been selected and they are backed due to politics and yet they protest when they are dropped. Based on your own logic please justify the selection of rohit and vijay over uv and Gambhir based on current form
rkt.india Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Rishi Dhawan :cantstop: what happened to Rishi Dhawan? :hmmm:
Pagalpanti Posted May 4, 2013 Author Posted May 4, 2013 Why is Manoj Tiwary being ignored though? And Shami Ahmeds axe is really terrible, not sure what wrong he did to get dropped, if selectors are grooming a team for WC2015, they ought to give young pacers these big breaks.
BeautifulGame Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Curious to see whom Dhoni would prefer between Jadeja and Ashwin if he chooses to go with 4 pacers. Fielding gives Jadeja the edge. Think it will depend on Irfan's batting form
vvvslaxman Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Both Gambhir and Sehwag two biggest threats to Dhoni's captaincy out of the way now. This is all Dhoni's team from now on. Lord Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Curious to see whom Dhoni would prefer between Jadeja and Ashwin if he chooses to go with 4 pacers. Fielding gives Jadeja the edge. Ashwin is a certainty.it'll be between Jaddu n Irfan for allrounder spot
cowboysfan Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 This is the best squad under the circumstances. We some some variety in the spinning department as well as great balance in the fast bowlers too.As always the batsmen will be a worry in England. PS-Yuvi needs this time off imo,he looked extremely chubby.
cowboysfan Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 how the hell does Murali Vijay get into the side anyways? he has had a poor IPL this is a great test for him before the SA tests, its up to him to curb his instincts of throwing the kitchen sink at good balls.
