DomainK Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 New Delhi: In the wake of increasing rapes and other crime against women across the country, Andhra Pradesh has reportedly barred women from clubs, pubs and bars after 10 pm. The State government has also banned those under 21 from these places at any hour, despite the legal age for drinking in the country being 18. The state government on May 3 issued a notification telling clubs, pubs and bars to ask women customers to leave after 10 pm or face cancellation of their liquor licences, daily The Telegraph reported. According to The Telegraph, a senior police officer said the step was prompted by several incidents of drunken women quarrelling with auto drivers outside bars and clubs at night. He didn't explain why the ban targeted only women although men get involved in drunken brawls too. Women's organisations criticised the notification as "male chauvinistic". Metros such as Calcutta and Mumbai, for instance, have no gender-based restrictions about drinking in bars or nightclubs. The State government issued a notification telling clubs, pubs and bars to ask women customers to leave after 10 pm or face cancellation of their liquor licences. "Women are not drunkards. It's unjustifiable to ban their entry after 10 pm. Many women work on evening and night shifts. Such discrimination is undemocratic," said Sandya, organising secretary of the Progressive Organisation of Women. Andhra Pradesh is the largest consumer of beer and cheap liquor in the country. Last month, Goa banned drinking liquor on beaches to avoid nuisance caused to women tourists. http://ibnlive.in.com/news/to-keep-women-safe-ap-govt-bans-their-entry-in-pubs-after-10-pm/389587-62-127.html

CSK Fan Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Once again the same regressive thinking. Same placing blame on outisde influences instead of looking deep inside us. How long will we be taking only sick, preventive measures (which dont work anyways) than attack the root of the problem.
CSK Fan Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 And who can argue with the logic? Na rahegi baas' date=' naa bajegi basuri.[/quote'] I am sure you with your regrssive thinking would love to remian forcefully shut inside your house after 10pm. BTW, baas here and the problem here, are clearly men who are animals. But as usual, in incredible India, its the victims who get punished, aka women
nikred Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Damn BJP govt. It's Kangress...or was it sarcasm. :dontknow:

ravishingravi Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Now they are basically placing the entire onus on women. We certainly cannot ensure law and order and protect you. So let us just wash our hand of this mess entirely. So what was implicit earlier has been codified. If you are woman and you are out at night, you are on your own. Only in India people.
Prakat Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Andhra women getting trolled massively. Time to pack the khamba and move the party home ladies. :yay:

Not a laughing matter. AP Women when drunk tend to be rowdy at times unlike the men who just drink and get on with their business. They should just ban woman from bars and clubs. These places are meant and built for men. Good move by the AP Govt.
Prakat Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 ^ gangs of rowdy women disturbing the peace in the night worries local residents. Fear of hooligans in skirts keeps andhra men off the streets at night. Shrill "woohoo"s in Telugu break the silent nights of hyderabad and give children night terrors. Government takes strict action to curb this growing menace. :nice:
