jiggo Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 BSP MP who walked out of Vande Mataram sees no reason to apologise http://www.firstpost.com/india/bsp-mp-who-walked-out-of-vande-mataram-see-no-reason-to-apologise-766711.html?utm_source=hp-footer When Speaker Meira Kumar lost her temper over an MP walking out of Parliament during the playing of the national song Vande Mataram, everyone wondered who it was. Now BSP MP Shafiq-ur-Rehman Burq has admitted he was the guilty MP, but says he sees no reason to apologise or explain why he showed disrespect to the song. “I will not write any letter. Why should I write?” Burq told CNN-IBN when asked if he would write a letter to the Speaker explaining why he walked out while the song was playing. And no, the legislator also sees nothing wrong with what he did. “Of course I did the right thing. I have not acted against the constitution. The status of the national song under the constitution is not the same as that accorded to the national anthem. I completely respect the national anthem. I honour the national anthem,” Burq said. Shafiqur Rehman has said he sees nothing wrong with what he did. Image from CNN-IBN And despite the fact that it is the norm to play the national song when the Parliament is adjourned sine die, like it was done yesterday, the BSP member of Parliament countered that the sentiments of Muslim MPs needed to be taken into consideration as well. “India is a democracy, there is secularism here. Under secularism when there are 30 crore Muslims living in the country you have to be considerate towards their emotions as well,” Burq said. “I request that Muslims not be compelled to sing this song since it is against the Sharia.. the song tells people to bow before Bharat Mata,” he said. Strangely enough, despite the opposition by some Muslim leaders to some of the words of the song, no other MP chose to express their opposition to the song in a similar manner. However, Burq is no stranger to strange behaviour in Parliament when the occasion has demanded it. In the past, specifically December 2012, Burq waved a black flag in Parliament to protest against the Babri Masjid demolition. Burq had earlier switched parties from the Samajwadi Party to the Bahujan Samaj Party to oppose the party’s alliance with former chief minister Kalyan Singh‘s party. He also initially had a problem with the fact that the BSP’s slogan was ‘Jai Bhim’ but was placated once told that it wasn’t binding on all party members. Why the feck does it matter Vande Mataram is not "Sharia" compliant. Anyways he has every right to walk out. Though to make parliament "secular" it won't be long before national song is censored or removed and then from schools, sporting events, campaign rallies etc.
rkt.india Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 There is no better song than Vande Matram ever written. :hatsoff:
FischerTal Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 If he doesn't want to take part in it, what's wrong with it? It's his right. Interestingly though no other Muslim MP walked out if I remember. It just seems to be a political gimmick
CSK Fan Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Tow points I want to make 1) Its sad to see how materialistic Islam as a religion has become. Bharat Mata is just a personification of the country and something which is done by most country for patriotism's sake. Its nothing to do with Gods or Goddesses. And even if it were, how is just saying the words going to make you commit shirk? Unfortunately, today it seems, for most Muslims, its only about how much they show externally, speak, etc which defines how religious they are and not what they feel inside. Its all about showing the outside world What does just repeating some words do, if in your heart you don't believe in it? 2) Its time India as a nation moved away from symbolism and a false show of respect. We have made untouchables of so many things and its sad to see us making untouchable symbols out of things like national flags, song, etc. Respect is earned not forced. I really like the American way, in lots of movies they have used American flags in many 'insulting' ways. They have parodied the national song. Is it because they are any less patriotic? No, they are just more secure with their own beliefs. Symbols, are just that, symbols, In the end its the actual people of the country who are important. Unfortunately we always put symbols over actual people

carnish Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 How are the actions of one Muslim MP being used to extrapolate to the majority of Muslims? :dontknow: Exactly my thoughts. MTC please don't generalise the whole Muslim population.
ravishingravi Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I personally dont care for symbolism of these things. The man is well within his rights to not sing Vande Mataram if he doesn't wish. There are far more practical and relevant things that we can do towards the nation. This forced chanting doesn't do much good.
SLICKR392 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I request that Muslims not be compelled to sing this song since it is against the Sharia.. the song tells people to bow before Bharat Mata So what?
asterix Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I don't see any issue either. It's his choice and in a democracy people are free to have their own choice.
Sachin=GOD Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I must say that Indians are getting weird - they don't care when a 5 year old child is raped but they are "hurt" when someone refuses to sing Vande matram.

Malcolm Merlyn Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Bowing to their Mughal Tughlag Lodhi Ghori Ghazni masters was alright but bowing to Bharat Mata isnt Sharia complaint. Sent from my GT-I9103 using Tapatalk 2
mhr123 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Well i don't know all the fuss ... there are footage where Tri-colour have been disrespected but people try to pick and choose the news .. "spiritual leader" and self proclaimed "GOD" Mataji Nirmala Devi Laloo g sitting during National Anthem .. Occasion 15th Aug. Excellency Sumitra Mahajan on occasion of his birth Day Regarding Vande Mataram .. it's not a national athem ... and people remember vande mataram only on 15th August or when something like this pops up.. These are the same people who talk much and then scratch there balls and urinate standing in a public place .. Muslim pray 5 times they prostrate to god ,while doing so he put there forehead and nose on the ground 34 time daily... not sure the people who unnecessarily open there mouth just for the sake of political gimmick have ever put there forehead on the ground... just as a symbol of love to motherland ..
urbestfriend Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Vande mataram means I salute you mother, a symbolic personification of India. It doesn't literally mean bowing down to any statue. So what's the fuss about this is against sharia? I can understand if singing this song means showing allegiance to India, which is against basic principle of Islam that religion comes first.

There are 20 billion interpretations, people blow themselves citing sharia, other make sure his 3rd wife doesn't get to drive while he is having a menage-a-trois with the first two...you never know what people can justify using this law.
