Just wanted to find out ,If I am the only guy who thinks that Lataji can be added to the long list of Indian Legends who overstayed their welcome. I don't want to be disrespectful to one of the greatest singers ever to emerge from the subcontinent if not the world but the first thing that comes to my mind when Lataji's name comes up is not Mahal or some of the other classics she sung but her humming for Yash Raj Films banner. I liked her song from Pukar and Lagaan as it symbolised something in relation to the movie but apart from that I think she could have stayed away from some of the soundtracks in the 90's. I mean her voice(blaphsemy but my personal opinion) but from Dil To Pagal Hai etc is very annoying. I think we can go back to Lamhe when her voice started deteriorating. I would say that these days as a novelty act she is ok but I think she is probably another legend who continued performing way past her prime. Thoughts

Thank you...Glad I am not the only one.....I mean sometimes some stars are so idolised that we continue adoring them despite under-performing. I know where this might eventually lead too but I was a SRT Bhakt and in the last 1 year it hasnt been very pleasant to watch the master struggle....was the same with R.D and VVS in Australia. Similarly Lataji is a legend but I think she kind of tainted her legacy for younger generation

I cringe everytime K3G tune comes during Yashraj or Karan Johar films...not sure which one... Also on the other hand Ashaji has maintained her peak longer but I think her voice is showing age now too.

Her voice in that song from Veer Zaara was not her best, but definitely not annoying. I would say that the lyrics and the voice of Lata in DDLJ songs gave some of the all time hits.Likewise, her voice has had a huge say in some Bollywood movies running for months in the theatres. Singing helps her earn bread and butter and she has every right to sing as long as she is in demand by the industry which looks for such artists.Untill Bollywood realizes she is of value to the industry, she will keep getting work.Why would not she work more like every other professional desires to work even after retirement ages.

ok maybe annoying is not right word' date=' but for some reason i started not liking her voice after that movie[/quote'] The voice is bound to decline at her age. She has been the best female singer in Bollywood. Her peak and longevity is difficult to attain by any of the newcomers.

this is annoying?? PF0Haq0ftyw you have high standards is all I can say
++++
shreya would have been better
Along with having a beautiful voice, she has maintained a decorum. Lataji's not sung any chikni chamelis or chikna chamelas for all I know. As for Shreya Ghoshal, She is Overrated, I think.. :cantstop:

One of the most important quality of singer along with voice is prononciation or uccharan in Hindi, Just hear the song Jiya Jale, Jaan Jale naino tale dhuan chale from Dil Se sung by Lata Jee and you will find each and every word of this song is crystal clear. Its a very tough song.

No one is doubting Lata's legacy but some of the songs she sung since 90's could have been sung by a younger Singer and sounded much better....For eg;Her song in Lagaan or Pukaar were very good and she singlehandedly made the song....I will also give K3G Title song the B.O.D but apart from that she took away a lot from so many other good songs.

I have listened to Shreya and Lata both in Tamil a language neither of them know. But Shreya sounds way better :hmmm: May be the age.. Even Asha sounds bad in Tamil. Sadhana sargam also sounds well. She won an award also IIRC.
