Cape Town - Fast bowler Dale Steyn has received backing from his past and present Proteas teammates after England's bowling coach said James Anderson is more skilful than the No 1-ranked SA Test bowler. David Saker's comments caused a stir on Monday when he told the Guardian's website of his admiration for Anderson, who returned match figures of 7-70 in England's 170-run Test victory over New Zealand at Lord's over the weekend. "To me he is the most skilful bowler in the world. "I know Dale Steyn is an outstanding bowler but when you watch Jimmy and the way he went about things, he has got more skills than Dale Steyn in his locker. “Steyn is a little bit quicker but when you watch Jimmy deliver those skills, it is just mind blowing," Saker was quoted as saying. Saker's remarks caused widespread disbelief in the cricketing community, with Proteas Test skipper Graeme Smith taking to Twitter to add his views. According to The Sun website, Smith wrote: “Are you being serious? Those were his comments?” Before following up with: Credit to sa journos and bloggers today!ive been proud reading stories on @DaleSteyn62 Retired former Proteas wicketkeeper Mark Boucher followed suit, tweeting: "Reading Sakers comments on Steyn v Anderson. Both quality bowlers but seriously David, get back in ur box...thought u would know better..." Steyn has taken 332 wickets in 65 Tests to date at an average of 22.65, including 21 five-wicket hauls and five 10-fers. Meanwhile, Anderson, the sixth-ranked Test bowler, has 305 Test scalps to his name in 81 matches at an average of 30.14, with 13 fifers and a single 10-fer.

Its his job to praise Anderson. Its like a mother telling her children they all look good (which may not be true) Dont know why the south africans are up in arms. He is also talking to the press or an english newspaper. So clearly he will be biased.

The issue is not as much as he praises Anderson but tries to biggy him up over Steyn. He can praise Anderson as much as he wants but should have left the Steyn comparison out.

:cantstop: Beef should check regulator's thread as well. :giggle: Steyn is way ahead of Jimmy #fact.

lol this is the reply bumble gives me on twitter when i tell him anderson doesnt even average 30. David 'Bumble' Lloyd ‏@BumbleCricket “: @BumbleCricket Anderson doesn't even average 30. Nowhere in the league of steyn” Obviously you don't know cricket" hmm so i dont know cricket for stating the simple fact that steyn>>>>lightyears>>>>anderson pommies :hehe:

Llyod blocked me for the lamest and the softest reason regarding DRS. I would have given him a real reason to block me today! 'Obviously you don't know cricket'..is that it?

Steyn is one of the greatest bowlers ever to have played cricket. Anderson is just a decent bowler who doesnt even average 30 despite playing all his cricket on wickets which assist his type of bowling. Zaheer Khan is actually a better bowler than Anderson. He has similar stats to Anderson despite playing most of his cricket on slow, low wickets in India. You have to laugh at the over hyping Englishmen.

Even the poms agree to that. Like regulator whines, its not just an Indian forum that agrees to it.

Like regulator whines' date=' its not just an Indian forum that agrees to it.[/quote'] The problem with his theories are that he cherry picks certain time/date and compares statistics conveniently. For example, Anderson performed better than Zaheer in Australia recently. It doesn't matter if Anderson was sh!t earlier. I for one would accept that Anderson and Zaheer are pretty much in the same mould but to sell Anderson as the next best thing since sliced bread is pure delusion.

i like anderson he is very good bowler but its comparisons like this which do more harm to cricketer like anderson than good.. steyn is right now on track to become one of greatest bowlers of all time mmaybe even the greatest anderson is just naother good bowler of his generation and that is big thing too respect him for that .. not everyone can be best at same time there ha to be one number one but anderson is doing fair job for his country and winning them fair share of matches ..respect for that.. also dont take these loonies seriously..werent england supposed to be next west indies team or next aussie team of 90's i will never forget that article top 5 teams of all time and england was in that

All due respect to Morne in SA...before Philander and post Pollock they had just one good test bowler and I KNOW how threatening Morkel is on certain tracks. Anderson has got a long way to go. Home: 27.04 Away: 35.83

I was just about to post that. Indiaregulator must be plotting the next post on Anderson now.
