someone Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Well, if we are about misery, Dhawan surely wouldn't be far. We are being too critical of this guy when Dhawan himself has been poor and hasn;t done anything to differentiate himself from Vijay and poor form. What about a bit of consistency? Cannot be mad at one particular player every time.
someone Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 He can't say that he isn't getting enough chances. Very disappointing performances in the two warmups so far. Well, so did Dhawan. And Vijay was very much unlucky in those innings. What has Dhawan done to get "sympathetic" while Vijay totally despair.
yoda Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Well, so did Dhawan. And Vijay was very much unlucky in those innings. What has Dhawan done to get "sympathetic" while Vijay totally despair. Agree that Dhawan has been worse, but he got run out in one of the games. Also, Dhawan seems to inspire more confidence that he will come through. :dontknow:
The Realist Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Well, so did Dhawan. And Vijay was very much unlucky in those innings. What has Dhawan done to get "sympathetic" while Vijay totally despair. Misery Vijay has been garbage in ODIs ever since he debuted years ago. The difference is Dhawan is only now getting a real break, if he does not perform then people will point it out in due course.

And really both are getting real breaks now. So,If you are giving the benefit of doubt to Dhawan, why cannot Vijay?
I6MTW Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Well' date=' both do have pathetic records in ODIs. And really both are getting real breaks now. So,If you are giving the benefit of doubt to Dhawan, why cannot Vijay?[/quote'] Because Dhawan performed well in IPL whilst Vijay has been ****.
FischerTal Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 both need to be tried in this CT and upcoming tri-series. they deserve that much at this level so performance can be analyzed.
someone Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Because Dhawan performed well in IPL whilst Vijay has been ****. First, Dhawan didn't do well just about decent in IPL. And more importantly, you are using IPL to justify?:hysterical: Both equally deserve the benefit of doubt.

Many are simply guilty of knowing or unknowingly using the player's image and the perception to judge them. Not a good method really.
jalebi_bhai Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 That's what I was after. Many are simply guilty of knowing or unknowingly using the player's image and the perception to judge them. Not a good method really. It's not that really.......it doesn't take a genius to watch Mooli and realize that his batting technique is flawed.....his foot movement borders from being limited to non-existent...and he doesn't have prodigious hand eye coordination to make up for it.......the main thing though is that his batting doesn't inspire confidence.......his idiotic antics just add to his misery....... With Dhawan, however, it's more about him scoring that one big score to set the wheels of his ODI career in motion......
someone Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 With Dhawan, however, it's more about him scoring that one big score to set the wheels of his ODI career in motion...... :emc: Why Dhawan? And why not Vijay?
jalebi_bhai Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 :emc: Why Dhawan? And why not Vijay? Maybe.....if you didn't conveniently ignore the rest of my post......you'd understand......
G_B_ Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 First' date= Dhawan didn't do well just about decent in IPL. And more importantly, you are using IPL to justify?:hysterical: Both equally deserve the benefit of doubt. he is averaging nearly 40 with a strike rate of 125 for nearly two seasons in the IPL. No other Indian opener in the IPL has better stats over the past two years. are you brain dead or simply arguing for the sake of it?
vvvslaxman Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 I am not talking about form or failures. I am just discussing one facet of his ODI game that overall affects the team. I am merely comparing with what we had earlier. How Gauti and Viru could milk singles. Viru is such a great attacking batsman. Even he relied a lot on singles which is what i find missing from Vijay.
G_B_ Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 and just to illustrate my point http://www.iplt20.com/teams/sunrisers-hyderabad/squad/41/Shikhar-Dhawan/ http://www.iplt20.com/teams/chennai-super-kings/squad/7/Murali-Vijay/

No other Indian opener in the IPL has better stats over the past two years. are you brain dead or simply arguing for the sake of it? Lol, how conveniently you have included 2 IPL seasons. Why can't we offer that type of evidence for Vijay? Yet, it's back to the same question, why using IPL at the first place?:giggle:
someone Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Maybe.....if you didn't conveniently ignore the rest of my post......you'd understand...... If you were referring to the technique, then it's again wrong. Dhawan hardly has the greatest technique and technique is over rated in limited formats. You might have poor technique but as long as you know how to score runs (eg. Sehwag), you will succeed.

Sehwag's technique was unique.....not poor.....he had incredible hand eye co-ordination to compensate for his lack of footwork......the fact that you think that Sehwag's technique was poor goes to show how silly your line of thinking is.......Mooli will always be nothng but a smack average player.....I would be more than happy to be proven wrong though.... Regarding Dhawan.....what are his technical shortcomings??
King Tendulkar Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 both need to be tried in this CT and upcoming tri-series. they deserve that much at this level so performance can be analyzed. agree
someone Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Sehwag's technique was unique.....not poor.....he had incredible hand eye co-ordination to compensate for his lack of footwork......the fact that you think that Sehwag's technique was poor goes to show how silly your line of thinking is.......Mooli will always be nothng but a smack average player.....I would be more than happy to be proven wrong though.... Regarding Dhawan.....what are his technical shortcomings?? Wrong. Sehwag technique was poor, it was only that when he started to make runs, people termed it as unique. And when he isn't scoring, it's back to poor technique. Technique is a really a hindsight issue. A good technique does not guarantee runs, while similarly poor technique does not mean you will not score runs in limited formats. And Vijay having good or poor technique itself is very debatable, and thus we should leave out this technique debate for the above reasons. Dhawan is getting a large benefit of the doubt here whereas Vijay is simply getting none. It's not fair at all.
