vvvslaxman Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Here is stat for Vijay's dot balls in each innings (inside bracket total number of balls) 7(16) 19(24) 12(20) 38(56) 13(18) 21(32) 35(58) 35(50) 3(3) 26(32) 8(8) 217(317) 217 out of 317 balls he faced in one dayers are dot balls.. that is roughly 68% dot balls. He continued the same pattern in the warm up matches. 30 out of 39 balls he faced were dot balls. That is whopping 76% of dot balls. This is simply not good .. Infact this is mediocre. It is not like he makes up for the dot balls. He pressurizes himself and throws it away. Side effect of this approach is bastman at the other end will be under pressure to keep the run rate going and he could get out in the process. Hope someone knocks some sense into his head. This pathetic approach of block or six is a recipe for disaster.

MCcricket Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 He is immensely talented but has not found his groove in ODI'S, he scored runs after being ultra defensive in test's, normally is a good free flowing batsmen with a lot of classy strokes all around but is simply worried about loosing his place in the side. His problem is trying too hard and after making a comeback he is putting pressure on himself to succeed, selectors need to back him and re assure him. His problem earlier was throwing away his wicket , now he is over defensive and in two minds.

kumar713 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Vijay is a c**t.There are loads of players who has the potential to play for India than Vijay.Even Uthappa looked good in IPL where vijay is a flop.He is selected only bcoz of dhoni.Remember CSK retaining him and putting ashwin in auction pool.His days are near in ODI's and tests(after SA tour).Though he will continue playing IPL.

I remember Dravid used to struggle mightily in ODIs at the beginning of his career as he could not rotate the strike but he evolved to be one of the top international scorers in that format. These new paplus don't really show the willingness to learn and evolve and so i'm not sure on mooli's ability to adapt

maniac Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I guess that was during the time when he was riding the IPL success....From what I have seen of him during the test series against Aus...He did rotate strike decently along with developing the waiting game..Now It's a different thing that he will struggle in these conditions due to existing flaws in his batting by I think he is a different player now.
saneindian Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Poor pick for ODIs. Just when he sorted out his test batting, thrust into the ODI side. Having said that, I wouldn't mind if he can at least tuk tuk and hold one end up for 10-15 overs. With the new rules, the ODIs now are all about preserving wickets and I would hate to see us being 50/5 regularly like yesterday.

diga Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 so VVS laxman is an average player u mean VVS had fitness issues.. you also need to be quick between the wkts & a reasonable fielder, which VVS was not. Dravid had secondary skills too.. wicket keeping & captaincy

skindia Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 robin uthappa has avg around 30 in 10 games he played as opener with 90+ strike rate...he is good for odi...even in IPl he plays like odi...ppl have wrong perception about him based on IPL
The Realist Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 A very average player with a limited scoring arc. As has been commented all he can do is either hit or block and he simply is unable to rotate the strike which for an ODI opener is criminal. He may have some virtues as a test opener (will really find out in SA) but he does not cut the mustard in the ODI format and looks out of his depth.
