Vilander Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 i honestly do not thing Akthar and Lee bowled faster than Tait. And Tait currently bowls at around 150 + thats it..These things are highyl dependant on measuring instruments and wind conditions in the ground people are bowling in.. Wahab,Tino,Johnson and Even Yadav are quick bowlers..they would not be must slower than Akthar and lee in prime.
rkt.india Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Nah, it's more the fact that he's kinda been terribly out of form. In his first spell vs NZ with the shortened runup he was consistently clocking 145+ He got injured a few times and hasn't been in the best of form since then. I saw him in first spell and he was barely hitting 85-86 mph, 87 mph was his top pace.

Bowlers who could crank it up anytime they wanted. Thing is Tait had capitulated action which him highly injury prone.
Vilander Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 All three bowled similar pace in their career. Bowlers who could crank it up anytime they wanted. Thing is Tait had capitulated action which him highly injury prone. if you remember , Bond bowled 155 during the time lee and akthar touched 160. Zak, Dilhara and Nehra almost touched 150 ( 148-149.5) in the same series.. I am sure the freak deliveries of 160 at that time was down to measuring instruments. Tait did it in a match where there was clear wind advantage..but he was faster than any one visibly. I do not buy the speedometer as much as batsman's reactions, i remember Taits over being furious one and keeper taking it high. Akthar fast delivery was surrounded by slower deliveries and the fast one was flicked to third man !! Wahab and Yadav clearly hurried batsmen in their respective games, Tino does the same. For me its pretty dodgy. I do not think Akthar/Lee/Bond were super quick gods and the current crop except Tait are trundlers in comparison.
ShebbySB Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Bowlers who can be the fastest bowler in CT are :- Umesh Yadav(India) Mitchel Johnson(Australia) Steve Finn(England)-If he plays any game. Morne Morkel(South Africa)-Already ruled out of the tournament. Dale Steyn(South Africa) Wahab Riaz(Pakistan) Tino Best(West Indies) Starc,Broad,Irfan,Junaid,Malinga,Roach,Chris Morris these guys are quick too but don't give me the impression that they'll measure up to the above mentioned guys.

Brett Lee 161k in newzealand too watch that video to believe, was over 155k. Tait hit 160 twice or thrice once in England and in Australia too. I have seen Shoaib clocking 155 plus even in test against India pak tour in 2006. They could clean up batsmen beating by sheer pace. Express pace.

rkt.india Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Actually, you dont need speee guns to see who was quicker. These guys are nowhere as quick as Lee, Actor, Tait at their quickest best.

rkt.india Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I don't think anyone can argue with that. May be a fully fit Bond should have come anywhere closer. I was replying to Vilander's arguement. Yes, Bond was very close to them. Even Bond could destroy teams of his pace when he was at his best. One of his spell to Aussies in ODIs was one of the best fast bowling display against line up. He destroyed them with just sheer pace.

the don Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 They had better skills bounce' date=' accuracy...not necessarily pace[/quote'] And how many test matches did tait play , i have seen akhtar and lee clock 155 plus in test matches , and in the case of akhtar in 35 degree heat , tait was a t 20 specialist . to put things in perspective akhtar was clocked at 96 mph in a t20 match against australia at 36 years of age , while consistently clocking 95 in the said game, tests are a different ball game altogether. . tait was fast but he cannot be compared to lee and akhtar . Tait wasnt particularly fast in the test matches he played and the less said about the current crop the better . Akhtar is the fastest of all time followed by thompson and lee .

Thing is Tait had capitulated action which him highly injury prone. By any time they wanted, if you mean 'only for the first three overs, even then, only if its their first spell of the day or after a 2 hour break', then sure. Lee and Akhtar were like formula1 cars. All power & performance but runs out of gas in 1 hour. Not good enough IMO.

Tait wasnt particularly fast in the test matches he played and the less said about the current crop the better . Akhtar is the fastest of all time followed by thompson and lee . If you mean by top speed of one ball or the first over or two, then yes. But if you mean sustained pace, then no, Akhtar or Lee has no business being in that group because they cannot bowl at 150+ after 2-3 overs on the trot. Fastest pacer were Thompson, Marshall & Holding. Guys who would bowl at 150+ even after the 7th over on the trot or bowling the 4th spell of the day and 20th over in a day. Lee and Akhtar were good for extreme pace for 12-18 balls. Then they ran out of gas and had to be taken off the attack or sprayed it all over the place while dropping in pace. If 'intimidation by sheer pace' was the one and only criteria, I'd easily pick Marshall, Holding and Thommo over Lee and Akhtar. Because these guys were maybe 2-3 kph slower on average but could bowl 20 overs a day or 7-10 overs in a row at 150+ speeds. Not just 3-4 overs and then gone.
rkt.india Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 By any time they wanted, if you mean 'only for the first three overs, even then, only if its their first spell of the day or after a 2 hour break', then sure. Lee and Akhtar were like formula1 cars. All power & performance but runs out of gas in 1 hour. Not good enough IMO. You always talk rubbish. No bowler can whole day clock every ball over 95 mph. They could clock 150kph plus any time of the day they wanted. I have seen Actor clock 157 kph in test match at the end of the day against India in 2006.
rkt.india Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 stop quoting akhter he was a chucker Then most bowlers are chucker. Even Mcgrath. and chucking does not mean you can clock 160 kph.
rkt.india Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 mcgrath was a chucker:blink: Yes. Haven't you read the ICC study done in 2000 ICC trophy? Most bowlers were found to be chucking in that study. Old videos of 70s and 80s were analyzed and it was found that mostly bowlers were chucking even then. Only after that study, ICC increased the elbow bend limit to 15 degrees. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/story/141558.html
