JaFanatic Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Thats what made our selectors to go for a bold decision by dropping them for this Champions Trophy. This is good in the sense our fielding is more energetic now and its heartening to see the youngsters playing fearless and positive cricket. This is how you build a team for a major tournament like world cup, but our fast bowling is still a weak link in our line up.
G_B_ Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I think the key point to note from this is, (A) Nobody should be undroppable. If for some reason Dhawan for eg starts failing badly in the run up to the 2015 WC then he should be dropped. Same for Rohit Kohli DK Bhuvi and anybody. Get your form back in the domestics and come back. (B) Just cause seniors are dropped does not mean its the end for them. GG especially if he performs well in the domestics or county whatever, should be given a recall if the openers are not performing well for India. The bottomline to the selection panel is be ruthless. Nobody should be above dropping be it Sachin (in tests) or Dhoni in the limited overs. I have noticed this at MCA (mumbai cricket association) there is a tremendous competition for places. While Mumbai are not producing India regulars like they used to, they are still winning the ranjis thanks to this ruthless streak and depth of players. This season Tare made the wicketkeeping positon his own. Next season he might be axed. Zaheer khan injured? Dhaval Kulkarni led the lines well. Be ruthless India. Drop players who are not performing.
JaFanatic Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 The success of India is because of England :aetsch: its because of our youngsters

Lets see if they will drop sachin for the SA tour instead of waiting for his retirement to pick a new player.
Pagalpanti Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 If the previous selection panel had any common sense this all could've been done after 4-0 and 3-0 in England. But they let the same side continue up until England toured India. Anyways better late then never.

GG especially if he performs well in the domestics or county whatever, should be given a recall if the openers are not performing well for India. Gambhir's problem was not necessarily form but poor technique and skills. He was still scoring runs on slow, low pitches in ODIs. He is not good against the short ball and has a tendency to poke at balls outside off stump and play away from the body. There's no way Gambhir could have scored runs in CT despite whatever form he is in. He has to work on the flaws in his technique if he has to make a comeback. That's the reason I'm glad Dhawan has done well because he looks confident against the short ball and also when he leaves around the off stump. He is also naturally aggressive.

Its not as if Dhavan Vijay DK are exactly youngsters. They are 28-29. There are plenty more on the bench who should be given a go including GG if people dont perform.

If raina does not perform its time to axe him even if India wins the champions trophy.

Cheeka was useless and a major handicap , under some astute selectors the process should have started few years back , also the contrary is true, the selectors and board should communicate and keep all the players in the loop, the players who are dropped should be given clear reasons and monitored, told what they need to do. Players should be given confidence so they can play freely and be successful that means a longer run for debutants and most importantly 3 teams for 3 formats for less injuries and a bigger pool of available players and more chances of success.

rkt.india Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 The success of India is because of England :aetsch: We thrashed them 4-1 in ODIs. People should not confuse ODI with tests.
tweaker Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 The selectors should take bold decision. The selectors should access the perfomance of Raina,Rohit Sharma,Ishant Sharma.Raina should be dropped for some series so that he can sortout his problem against short ball.

And please make a fair comparison with others too without targeting him only for his age. i am also willing to bet he will be our stand out batsman in SA and he is the best against Steyn. So it will be a completely retarded decision to go by these pitches and ODI performances Keep in mind he has shown no obvious signs of struggle and was in good nick before getting out unlike Gambhir or Sehwag in those series

CSK Fan Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Sachin fans :cantstop: 1 series go back 3-4 series no performance. What I meant was, no fingers will be pointed out at players like Dhoni failing for many series because they made one big score at home after everyone else scored on a flat pitch. That's what I meant by 1 series. If Sachin should be removed, so should many others, he is being targeted only because of his age which is biased

The 50s came in the recent series, didn't it? If you are taking last series to justify dhoni, etc inclusion you should consider Sachin's too. Or if you want overall performances including overseas, why spare Dhoni?
