The curious case of umesh yadav

http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/651481.html This is an article about steven finn but it sits up perfectly on umesh yadav....we all know he is genuinely quick, had a decent test average in short career, and an out-n-out wicket taker(and that's why we all ICFers love him)....But is he bankable? The recent development have really put a question on his reliability...Clearly he is not those type of bowlers who create pressure ball after ball, force you to do something silly and get your wicket..he is some one who will bowl a half folly on the pad which you will flick for boundary, and the very next ball he will bowl a full fast delivery which will sneak through your defence. But is this what test cricket demand?? or is this how we can stand against SA? How you rate yadav as a test bowler and importantly future spear-head of Indian attack..or is it safe to call him a spear head? As there is a nice cliche in the above mentioned article:

he is good at the things you can't teach and not so good at those you can

What according to you umesh yadav is: future spear head or spray gun??

Umesh Yadav can be great but he is very very inconsistent and i dont see a future for him in LOI cricket.

Yadav will do good in tests, but tell you what, he will never be a Zaheer khan, or a Jimmy Anderson. By that i mean, he will never be a leader of the attack. The next leader of the Indian attack is Bhuvi. Yadav is not intelligent enough, he will always need a dhoni to guide him. If you give ball in his hands and ask him to plan 6 deliveries on this own, set his own field, he would probably bowl 4 boundary balls and 1 wicket taking ball in that over. Just seem to lack brains and strategies to take wickets on his own in LOI's. Its just a matter of time before he looses his place to Varun Aaron or Mohit Sharma in the ODI team.

Has not he bowled on Ranji road and then came into the team. His One day record even there is not great.

Though he has shown the ability to learn over the years since 2010 but he still needs to learn KISS (keep things simple silly).

This is the key point. He is good in First Class cricket and so he is good in Test cricket. He is poor in OD cricket and so poor in ODI cricket. The two formats are totally different. This is especially true for young bowlers coming into the game. yeah..in tests its all aboout getting batsmen out in odi u have to restrict both formats need different skill but most of times if ur skilled in one u will be good enough even for other format umesh will get better in odis with experince but in tests he is natural ..

Yes. Recall listening to an interview by Wasim where he said that he thought about wickets in Tests and in ODIs just thought about maidens.

lot of people here going on and on about how liable/crap he is but have a look at his test stats,line and length he bowled..he is an exceptional find in test cricket and evolve as a very good test bowler,should play a season in the county ..india missed him badly in that test series vs england
