Inspired by a television serial, a 14-year-old boy concocted his own kidnap story and disappeared on his way to school on Tuesday morning. Mannat - a Class VII student and a resident of Mugal Sarai in UP - hatched his own abduction plot in a bid to skip his term tests. According to the police, Mannat's mother received an SMS claiming her son has been kidnapped and demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh. The message was sent from Mannat's mobile phone. Sensing trouble, the family approached the police. "We found that some gold jewellery and cash were missing from the house. We kept Mannat's mobile phone on surveillance," inspector R.P. Yadav of Mughal Sarai police station said. Once again, the police proved that technology is their best partner in cracking such cases. Officers traced the boy and recovered him from his maternal grandfather's house in Varanasi late in the evening. "Mannat told his grandfather that he was kidnapped and somehow managed to escape," Yadav said. However, the boy broke down during interrogation and said he feared that he would not be able to clear the exams. "Mannat said he hatched the plot taking inspiration from TV serial 'Crime Patrol'. Debutant Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I agree. Exams are like torture for students. In fact, first 20 years of human life is wasted because of these exams.
