Afghan and Ireland seem to be coming up nicely. Scotland looked good for a brief period and haven't heard of cricket from there lately.

there are enough cricketers from scotland who can make a team. But they ply their trade in the counties where they are well paid.

Speaking of China I agree with Vilander that their focus will be on football. Thats the one sport they want to make an impact in. The status of baseball in Japan is also highly questionable. Sumo wrestling is the de facto sport of Japan followed by baseball followed by football.

China will not bother about Cricket, since they look at sport in a different way. They would play olympics because the rich countries in the world do well in it, they will do everything required in football because of same reason. But since cricket is mostly made of poor- 3rd world countries like India they will not care about it much. ICC-BCCI should try to promote cricket in other poor- 3rd world countries in Africa/Polynesia they are the best bet for cricket..they can focus on countries with malnutrition and genetic weakness' like India that will render cricket as a favorable sport since other sports require physical strength and would be less attractive for the people. But finding a large poor, malnutritioned, genetically week population outside of Indian subcontinent would be pretty difficult. PS: i am sure Australians would be having a thing or two to say about being grouped in Cricket, they sure are a track and field/ rugby kind of country, unlike India which has no other sport.

May be lazy countries like middle east might be a good option along with places like ghana,somalia and mexico.

cricket on 2nd isn't a surprise. Its the most popular sport in India, Pak and Bangladesh - thats a LOT of support in terms of population.

Cricket is a growing sport and i believe it will grow steadily in more countries.Indeed, China will be an international player of cricket maybe in the next 10-15 years China is aiming to be a test-playing nation by 2020 and to qualify for world cup in 2019

Cricket is getting really popular from what it used to be in Argentina and Italy. You would see both these teams continuously having some good results in ICC Division cricket. Both these teams are also having native playres and not immigrants or any Asian players, which is even better to see that the Actual locals are in the team.

T20 may have a chance of making cricket popular in non traditional cricket countries. ICC should send some of the teams with younger cricketers on tours just to play a few T20 games to popularize the game. I dont see most of these countries getting good at ODIs or Tests or even getting interested in it.
