Yeah. They way Rohit batted on difficult tracks in WI' date=' I cannot help but pick him ahead of Rahane who had a golden chance in Delhi test but looked out of depth. Rahane has not convinced me against genuine pacers till now.[/quote'] but that isnt fair, you cant drop him after just one game. Rohit did well in ODIs.Tests are a different format altogether

No need to have picked Raina who unfortunately is hogging a place. Other than Pujara, he was the only one who played all the matches, this despite having played 170 ODIs for India! Now he will continue to get a place in the FC squad as well and Rahane will warm the benches. Hopefully selectors add him to India A squad vs NZ A so that he gets to play regularly. And then he needs a big FC season unlike the last season where he was inconsistent.
Raina despite being a team man, earned some bad reputation in Ranji by not enforcing follow on in a Ranji game. So i take it he insisted management that him being part of every game. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=291335

Riana gets his strength from MSD. As sane says, Raina is going to cost somebody a place in the tests coming up. May not be Rahane but somebody and he will do his best to be picked for the SA test series. Patil needs to nip this in the bud. Axe raina from the squad. If he is in the squad then MSD will play him.

Rahane was picked ahead of Raina by MS in the Aus test. I too had though that he might go for Raina, but he did not. I hope Raina fails in Test series

He did not go CT as a opener when vijay failed in warm up he was asked to take that role and if you call what Nohit did in last few matches as consistency then we have different barometer. .
Rohit and Dhawan were main openers for CT. Vijay was backup. Rohit had started opening from England series and was supposed to continue it. Remember what Dhoni had said before first ODI, he had said that Rohit had played his last ODI as an opener so he wanted him to continue there.

What about before CT? Rohit had an absolute disaster of a series in SL and he gets a game against England when Rahane failed in 2 out of 3 games and gets dropped in the same series. And yes, he has age to his side but he gets benched for months and get picked and dropped/benched again. Its only going to affect his game and confidence.
And he was dropped once he failed in SL, remember that. Rahane was given a go but he himself did not make the most of it and averages 25 since then.

But Rahane has shown a vulnerable temperament.

IIRC, the next ODI series after the SL was against Pakistan, and Rohit was in the squad and he failed yet again. Again, he is selected for the England series, Rahane fails in the 2nd and 3rd ODI, he is dropped, and Rohit opted ahead of him and all for the sake of his 'talent' talk. I'm more than glad that he has been doing well now but the management has been very harsh with Rahane. If Rohit deserves such a long run, so does Rahane. You bench a guy with an avg. of 60 in FC for more than an year and give him a game out of the blue on a steep, uneven minefield and expect him to score runs straight away?

thats because hes benched for long and dropped after 2-3 failures.give him the same rope as Rohit and I'm sure he'll do well too

Rohit is India senior side opener now, and as someone who has played as many as 100 and something ODIs and having done well recently should simply not be playing List A cricket with the A team. Rahane should have played all the matches in the tri series, the squad and selection is disappointing And now he will not get a chance in 4 days games I guess Raina despite being given a pretty long run in test cricket will play- he should not be in SA. If anything Rahane having played in Indias last test at no 6 should be playing but dont expect it

I liked the idea of touring SA and i was hoping for good acclimatization for our players. But sadly we were greeted with bunch of patta wickets. They did their best to rotate the players. Still i think Raina played one too many games considering he is a current playing XI member and he won't play any Tests in SA.

I am not sure of that. He was in the squad for our last test series and before that in the Rest of India squad for Irani Trophy (where he did very well). With the ODIs vs Aus being only int'l cricket before SA series, expect him to retain his spot and potentially get picked at no 6 for at least one test..

^ Yes it must be partly why he is here to give him another shot at the no 6 spot in test lineup, surely not just to play in the tri series

BCCI has given him the most rotten treatment among his contemporaries. Unfortunately, he does not have a god-father unlike the TN and CSK camp. I don't expect BCCI to treat him any better.

He was still second highest scorer' date=' the whole team failed with the bat in his match.[/quote'] Doesn't matter. When the selectors sit to pick a test squad, they will see a 100 for Raina and failures for Rahane. Rahane has to score big in every opportunity he gets, else long stint in domestic cricket awaits him.

Will be interesting to see if they go for Rohit or Raina(given that Rahane doesn't score a big 100 in second innings here). Raina's bowling will put him ahead but I guess they should pick any 2 of these 3(Rohit/Raina/Rahane)
