Seems to have been the pick of the seamers Coming back to Nayar, this guy is perfect for India when playing in India. We can play 3 spinners and have Bhuvi and him take the new ball. He has bowled with the new ball before for mumbai and as i said is a handy wicket taker.

He is basically a much better version of Ganguly with the ball. He will give the batsman a chance to score but thats how he picks up wickets. Can certainly bowl 10 overs in a day to reduce the load of the frontline and can also average 40 plus with the bat home and away. I dont think India does have any real pacer bowling allrounders. Ie your not going to find somebody who averages 56 with the bat and 32 with the ball (taking more than 100 wickets) in Indian domestic cricket.

rkt.india Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Test 3 Day 1 Nayar, Kulkarni bowl WI A out for 268 It wasn’t necessarily the kind of surface that cried out for the fielding captain to stick the opposition in, but Cheteshwar Pujara really didn’t have much choice. India A were behind the eight-ball, trailing 0-1 going into the final four-day game of their three-match series against West Indies A, and the general consensus was that whatever assistance the faster bowlers would get from the pitch at the KSCA Stadium in Hubli would be on the first day. Not even Pujara, though, would have bargained for his bowlers cleaning up the West Indies A first innings on Wednesday (October 9) itself. A final tally of 268 wasn’t necessarily reflective of the nature of the surface, which did help the bowlers to some extent but no more than that. There were pockets when India A bowled extremely well – Zaheer Khan had a good day out even though he only picked up one wicket – but the West Indies A batsmen contributed generously to the home team’s cause by flirting with danger once too often. India A rounded off a fine day by finishing on 10 without loss, VA Jagadeesh and Gautam Gambhir seeing off the five overs to stumps with few alarms. Most eyes at the venue, packed to its 15,000 capacity with excited, boisterous spectators, were understandably trained on Zaheer, and Roger Binny, the national selector, will have noted with satisfaction the rhythm India’s premier paceman struck on a pleasant day with a cooling wind wafting across the ground. Zaheer didn’t exactly go full tilt – after all, this is only his second competitive fixture in the last four and a half months – but appeared in a much better place than in the previous game in Shimoga, even if the rewards went the way of Dhawal Kulkarni (3/60), who oscillated between the brilliant and the ordinary, and Abhishek Nayar (4/61), the workhorse who bowled with great intelligence and common sense for most part of the day. India A seemed to be wasting the new ball first up when Zaheer and Ishwar Pandey hardly made Kieran Powell, leading the side with Kirk Edwards rested, and Kraigg Brathwaite play. Gradually, both hit their straps, asking difficult questions through bounce and a little bit of sideways movement. Pandey had a huge shout for lbw against Powell turned down, but it didn’t take Zaheer long to procure the breakthrough as he elicited a forward prod from Brathwaite that went into Uday Kaul’s gloves. Zaheer went off the attack after a first spell of 5-3-6-1, slightly flattering, but he was excellent in a second spell that read 3-1-10-0, getting the cutters going and repeatedly getting past the outside edge. He had four spells in all en route to figures of 15-5-33-1, by no means extraordinary but a further indication that he is finding his feet and that all he needs is a little more match time. Kulkarni produced some beautiful deliveries, none more so than the one that held its line and beat the outer part of Powell’s bat to crash into his off stump, but he was also guilty occasionally of bowling far too full and down leg, either being driven handsomely or glanced delicately by Narsingh Deonarine. Deonarine showed the most enterprise of the West Indies A batsmen even if it was Leon Johnson, batting at No. 3, who was the top scorer with a chancy 81, full of outside edges and the odd authoritative stroke against Bhargav Bhatt, the left-arm spinner who didn’t have too much going for him. Johnson had helped Powell add 45 for the second wicket, and then consolidated in Deonarine’s company as 70 came for the third wicket in 125 deliveries. Nayar, plugging away manfully and throwing the ball wide outside off as he tried to cash in on the batsman’s propensity to go for his shots, beat Deonarine twice on the slash but succeeded at the third time of asking, Kaul picking up the second of his three catches. The total of 123 for 3 should have become 123 for 4 but two deliveries later, Paras Dogra put down a simple chance at second slip off Kulkarni to let Johnson off on 51, and Johnson and Asad Fudadin further frustrated India A while adding 52 for the fourth wicket. West Indies A had gone to tea at 175 for 3 but in the first over upon resumption, Johnson was trapped in front by Nayar, falling away in trying to work to leg. It was the second straight time that he had been dismissed with a century in sight, having fallen for 91 in Shimoga last week. More importantly, it had given India A a look-in, and Kulkarni joined Nayar in polishing off the innings. West Indies A lost their last five wickets for just 28 in 52 deliveries, Dogra compensating for the drop with a stunning overhead right-handed catch at point to signal the end of the innings. A seam bowling allrounder will be very useful in Australia where we play next WC.We have to start building for that now.Another option is Rishi Dhawan but Nayar seems a better batsman so far. OD Record isnt great but then again we've given chances to people like Rohit,Rahane despite their records too,so why not?
