Detonator Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 That doesn't make sense (diet plan in OP) Scientifically your muscles will break down if you have 16 hours of starvation. Also food eaten in the short period will be converted to fat. It's the whole scence behind how muscles are built Not exactly, it would take atleast 2-3 days for muscle breakdown, if we didn't even take water. Despeds on how much glycogen reserves our body has. Or else many people who are fasting might be crumbling.
Detonator Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 There is no works-for-all fool-proof formula. Also, our bodies can adjust to very diverse range of diets. As someone already mentioned the diet plan in OP is known as - intermittent fasting, also ( IIRC), warrior diet. There are people who have tried these and gotten good results ( if you go by their bodybuilding forum threads). One of my friend tried it and built decent muscle mass. They key is, choosing a plan (there are lots to pick from), that has worked for a decent sample size, and following it religiously. Ideally, one should try out few types of diets (except for the ones which tell you to starve for days) - depending on goals ( target, timeline, food habits/availability) - and settle for one, which you enjoy ( at least not end up hating). Enjoying the process and hence the results is more important than otherwise. Agree. American food has lot of fat and protein too, so it might work for them. Not sure whether the intermittent fasting works for Indian food habits, as ours is more of starch and carbohydrate. You see, most Indians won't be too fat or too lean. Our food habits are one of the best in the world. Chances are that some organ/gland in our body will take toll. Whatever plan, we need to observe how our body responds to the change in food habits and need to slightly modify. In general, it depends on individual and his/her way of eating so far.

What is wrong with the traditional and core Indian diet of rice, lentils, whole wheat roti, vegetables, and yogurt? Of course, if you are going to stuff yourself with pooris and butter chicken on a daily basis it is bad, but those have traditionally been luxury dishes, which have spiked in consumption in the middle and upper middle class due to increasing prosperity.
coffee_rules Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Indians are diabetic becauise they eat a carb-rich diet and hardly exercise.

But, his results overshadowed my then 'common sense' science. Also - I remember reading quite a few people from bodybuilding.com trying this diet successfully. There is a reason this is called warrior diet, I suggest read a bit. As for muscle break down, I understand what you are trying to say - maintaining positive nitrogen balance throughout ( remember picking this up from Arnold's book). But IMO, that is more important for building (and maintaining) huge amounts of bulk in short time, for normal peoples' bulking needs it shouldn't matter as much. "Food eaten in short time will be converted to fat" - no its not that simple. it takes time to build cells, any kind of cells. Undereating/starving over many days, is what definitely breaks down muscles - few hours of fasting should be fine.
Bharat Nirmaan Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 Other tips - First of all cut refined sugar, it slows down metabolism. You can consumes fruits, and other natural sugars. But say NO to Chini. Before eating take a small amount of Black Pepper and Salt combo and rub on tongue, it will signal your stomach to be ready and produce acids required for digestion. Black Pepper aids in weight loss and has anti-Cancer properties. You can make a habit of adding black pepper to curd/yogurt. Fire the car wash guy, maintain your automobiles yourself, you will do a better job. Your car will get less swirl marks and you will get good work-out. Waxing a car is more taxing than a gym workout. Prefer Asian squat Toilet.
Bharat Nirmaan Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 Cheese Patty and Bournvita made me fat, occasionally Dahi-Bhalle and Samosa's. I was unaware of their side effects. Bournvita has relaxing effect on tired body, but its very rich in calories. Now I avoid such foods.

Deleted_User_1 Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 I fast daily' date=' I eat 2 meals a day @ 11AM and @ 5PM followed by straight 18 hours of fast, I drink [u']only water in those 18 hours. Try it, most people hate breakfast anyways or prefer slightly late breakfast and not having heavy meal before sleeping is a good habit. 18 hours sounds tough but it includes 8-10 hours of sleep so its manageable, maximum 3 days are required to adapt to new time table. You can eat anything you want, you can drink sugar tea, consume butter, parontha's anything. Just restrict yourself to 6 hour (11AM-5PM) window. Your health will improve like anything, You will shed kilo's and your health stats will improve. I forgot the name of this diet, I saw it @ bodybuilding forum. I was 130KG, today I'm 90kg. I am 6 feet tall.

Bharat Nirmaan Posted September 7, 2013 Author Posted September 7, 2013 Rubbing salt will signal stomach.. bwhahahhaaa:haha::haha: Read this Dumber Sir - Helps in digestion: The piperine content of black pepper makes it a great digestive. It stimulates the taste buds to signal the stomach to produce more hydrochloric acid. This acid is essential to digest proteins and other foods in the stomach, which when left undigested cause flatulence, indigestion, diarrhoea, constipation and acidity. The excess hydrochloric acid secreted helps in preventing these conditions.

The Outsider Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 No protein. Lentils(not just daal, but the chanas and rajma), Whole Wheat, and Yogurt combined provide enough protein for a day to day life. Sure if you want to become a sportsman or a bodybuilder it's not sufficient.

You CAN get enough, but the traditional Indian diet (however you define it) does not have enough protein. The carbs to protein ratio is out of whack for most regional diets.
