NareshK Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Great work by the respective administrations in preventing a wide scale disaster. A similar cyclone back in 1999 claimed 10,000 lives. Hopefully with better technology and protective measures, more lives can be saved from natural disasters in the future.

But it is great to see a lot of things working and lives being saved. All coastal states should be made to replicate orissa's anti cyclone measures.

BBC was trying to show how the evacuation work was not good and how the people were not given enough warning....but their correspondent in Orissa told them how it was well done. Finally they had to settle for...there is no electricity. :--D

The temple stampede shows there is no value for human life in India. No point in preparing for a big crowd. They will die like ants.

They will die like ants.[/quote'] Actually it's very difficult to manage large gatherings, especially when people have a tendency of not obeying rules and authority. It's difficult to manage a queue of 50 people in India for 10 minutes, leave alone a large gathering of this size for days.

Let in tractors, people on a confined space with only 2 exit points and then on top of that lathi charge people,a stampede is a forgone conclusion.
