fineleg Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Sandeep vs Kris - was Patil lot bolder and more decisive abt Dravid, Laxman, SRT, sehwag and gambhir? Did decisions of retirement by legends happen after patil had a 'word with them' abt picking only based on performance? Comparatively joker in my avatar (thumbnail pic) did not do much for future looking team?
FischerTal Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Kris srikanth was hands down the worst chief selector in the history of Indian cricket.
Unleashed Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Srikanth was a joker and came very close to ruin the legacy set by Gary Kirsten. Some of his selections were cowardly. This selection committee has been brilliant.
CG Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Its more to do with performances after 2 tours where we had failures there had to be a scapegoat. But Dravid took a good call as he easily would have kept playing as he had a good england series.Dhoni deserves some credit as he is the boss of selection matters.Really with form of sachin , shewag, gambo and feud with dhoni it was an easy decision.Yeah I hated chika for bringing back old guys like nehra but really he did not have much power in front of dhoni and srini combo.

But Dhoni-Srini combo is still there. Cheeka was a completely different after that than when he was at the helm. He came on TV channels and talked completely differently after that.

As far as the opening post goes. hmm i dont think Laxman or Dravid are issues as they retired. Sachin as well. Patil has no input in that. Zaheer Sehwag Gambhir Bhajji Yuvi (tests) , yes Patil has done that. While i dont think Patil will be able to dislodge Dhoni is he has poor run of form. Rest everybody is fair game.
Zanjeer Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Srikanth's selection was like his batting. Lackluster at its best. Even Sandeep patil isn't great when it comes to selecting fast bowlers. Selecting Vinay Kumar and that little weasel unadkat was atrocious to say the least.
Sidhoni Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Patil and co have been really good while Kris was nowhere near.
CoverDrive Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 patil definitely has done a very good job. there is a lot more sensible selection at all levels. bold decisions have been taken and it is not just forcing out seniors but pushing out underperformers like sehwag gambhir. results are also there to see like the CT13 win
rahulrulezz Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Don't know why we make fun of Srikanth selection polices. He gave us the strongest squad for 2011 Wcup which never happened before. He was right to exclude Jadeja from wcup as well as Rohit the tailunted Sharma. He also excluded Ishant Sharma as well I understand selection of PChawla n Sreesanth was painful but they didn't get many games but imagine if Jadeja, Rohit n Ishant were selected, Dhoni is their biggest fan n you wouldn't see India this far in wc2011

Yeah Thats the point When dhoni job came on line he had to do something to change team fortunes so the shakeup.Really guys were in horrible form.
gakgupta Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 sandeep patil is by far a better selector as compared to his predecessors. And Srikkant is the worst....There are some interesting selections by Sandeep as well...like Vinay, undakat but we dont have too many choices as well......But i like his A tour selections and pretty much gave chances to every possible pace bowler available in country (except Pankaj singh)....None of them showed any brilliance....so he had to take some rough choices

Hardly the worst selector but he really let everyone down after the way he dealt with team after 0-8

Are you saying Dhoni is currently not in form? Where did you get that from? The guy has had his best year with the bat in Tests and has been consistent in ODI's.

Agreed that Patil made bold decisions on Bhajji and Yuvi (Tests) too. G_B: I do think Sandeep Patil had some influence (maybe partial influence) on retirement of SRT, VVS, RD. Only poor thing is selection of stupid bowlers like Ishant Sharma, Legend Kooomar etc. Hopefully that will get corrected.
philcric Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Pointless thread. Kris Srikanth doesn't deserve to be compared to anyone. Forget about vision, strategy, shrewdness,, that guy lacked even basic common (and cricketing) sense.
Number Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Cheeka was the worst selector in a long long time. There was nothing to pick in the world cup team, XI almost picked itself.
Vilander Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Cheeka was the worst selector in a long long time. There was nothing to pick in the world cup team' date=' XI almost picked itself.[/quote'] cheeka gave us the WC...:hatsoff:
