This is why I would rather worship technology and science instead of God. Technology helped save thousands of lives from cyclone. People died in a stampede on their visit to God. RIP to those who died.
This is wrong on many levels if you are a theist. If you are a atheist, it is a different matter.

Some shocking revelations coming out. Police corruption played a big role in this stampede. It is captured on the camera that Police was taking Rs. 200 to let tractor reach in no traffic zone which added to commotion. Local people are saying that police started lahicharge to make way for a BJP VIP which led to panic in crowd, though it is unconfirmed. People have very heart-rendering stories to tell.:((

There are enough vehicles to block one side of the bridge. It might be the same case on the other side. With huge crowds, this was a diasaster waiting to happen. 1e8bbf1c-5e98-4ee1-a1dc-04a7fd38495fWallpaper1.JPG

They should not let such huge numbers of people to gather in places where people can't disperse to the left and right. They could have kept the crowds in open areas at some earlier checkpoint and made sure the bridge had limited number of people

The Madhya Pradesh government does not seem to have learnt anything from past tragedies. Over 50 pilgrims were washed away at this very spot in 2006 and the bridge on which this stampede started was built thereafter. Similar stampedes of lesser magnitude have happened in other temples in Madhya Pradesh but no standard operating procedure for crowd management has been put in place..

Shivraj Chauhan needs to resign. But the fact that human stampedes continue to happen with the frequency that they do in India points towards 2 obvious things: There are too many people India; And as a slight consequence there are too many stupid people in India.

this is so senseless but i see it all temples in india where there is no concept of crowd control at all.
In India, temples are more about controlling God.

Datia stampede survivors claim they were thrown off bridge, cops deny Many people who survived the stampede on a bridge to a temple in a Madhya Pradesh town on Sunday today accused the police of throwing bodies into the river beneath, while the police denied such allegations as “absurd”. About 90 pilgrims, mostly children and women, died on Sunday, either crushed or drowned after jumping into river Sindh in desperation, while crossing the 500-metre bridge to the temple in Ratangarh in Datia district, 400km from Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal. The toll rose to 115 today. While the police claimed a rumor that the bridge will collapse triggered the panic, many pilgrims said the baton-charge by the police aggravated the situation. Geeta Mishra, 55, a resident of Ward No. 13 of Bhind district’s Daboh town said she saw policemen throwing the dead and the injured into the river while she was searching for the body of her brother-in-law Sanjay Mishra’s 16-year-old son Dilip. Ramnaresh Shivhare, a labourer from Bhind district, told Hindustan Times he was visiting the temple on the last day of Navratra along with his three sons---Jitendra, 20, Ashish, 15, and Golu, 6. Golu was lost in the panicked crowd after slipping out his father’s hand. Shivhare and his sons found Golu dead on the bridge. “When Ashish leaned to lift Golu’s body, a policeman threw him into the river. We found him in an unconscious state on the river bank, with his leg fractured,” said Shivhare. Ashish alleged the police threw the victims off the bridge after searching their pockets. Tara Singh and Lakhan Singh, both shopkeepers near the temple, leveled similar allegations. They believe the policemen threw the dead into the river possibly to give an impression that most people died by jumping into the river and not in the stampede. Chamal range deputy inspector general of police DK Arya said he reached the site of the tragedy at about 12 noon and found no such thing. He said these allegations were “absurd”. “I condemn such allegations. Policemen too have sons, brothers and fathers. There might have been some lapses but police personnel can never indulge in such inhuman and despicable acts,” Arya said Madhya Pradesh director general of police Nandan Dubey said, “Since a judicial commission has been instituted, it would look into all aspects of the tragedy.”

RIP. No crowd would go on a stampede unless they are rushing to see something or running away from something scared them. A proper navigation and organization could have averted this. A complete failure of organization.
