None of them would be remembered by Kapil for captain. There is history books and after Kapil, it is only Dhoni who has achieved 3 times of glory + ODI/Tests No.1 ranking. The facts aren't there with you but rather the usual emotional appeal on how Ganguly was more connected. The fact is under Ganguly, we weren't used to success so any nice victory was taken very emotional. But under Dhoni, we have simply become to used to good, quality wins and trophies and winning is just a ordinary event and doesn't get praised or mentioned equally.

I will say that T20 2007 was Dhoni's biggest acheivement maube followed by CB series.....WC yes is the pinnacle but it would have been a shame if we wouldn't have won it despite being the favorites and in home conditions,Nothing extraordinary there. 1983 WC is the greatest acheivement by an Indian captain......Don't see Dhoni's tactics acheiving anything like the 2003 WC. The above 2 performances did more to Indian cricket than anything. 8-0 is well covered up and so is the 2- 1 loss or 3 First round T20 exits.

Agree. The problem with Dravid is that under him we went out int he first round of the WC. And unfornutaley, in India, people remember a captain only by his track record in the WCs.

Back to this, in cricket and certainly its history, we remember winners and winning moments. Dhoni has all the winning moments while Ganguly is left with none. There can be absolute no comparison between Dhoni and Ganguly.

Dravid was a great onfield captain.. but his aloofness off the field left him without any supporting lieutenants and eventually paid the price for the world cup failure

The thing I give a lot of credit to Dhoni which is what Clarke is failing is that Dhoni is a great captain with his players. The players absolutely respects him, he is a great man managers and I think that's where not enough credit is given to Ponting and Graeme Smith. People will look at their records at say that they had great teams. Ponting had to captain Symonds and Clarke who the former slept with the latter's girlfriend, a despondent Damian Martyn who just didn't have it in him anymore, Shane Warne who hated Gilchrist and Ponting and decided that taking a weight loss pill was a smart thing, Hayden who was way too aggressive to captain. At that hayday to keep that team from falling apart and still being focused to completely belt England 5-0, South Africa as well as India at home (Gilly captained though) is incredible. Then to have all these players retire and belt South Africa at their home with players like Andrew McDonald, Doug Bollinger, Katich, Marcus North and Phil Hughes at the age of 20 is remarkable. Also considering that Bollinger was unfit, Johnson was erratic as hell, Watto would break down a lot, Clarke did nothing, Katich decided it would be fun to choke Clarke and Gilchrist retiring, he done a great job in gelling a team. Sure he was an average thinking captain but he was a player that guys respected and would play their lives for. Smith same thing, the guy was captain at age 23 and just did similar things as Ponting. Strauss had to deal with Flintoff, Pietersen and Harmison. Dhoni has to deal with Kohli, a team without Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman and guys with really hot headedness. I think Dhoni is doing a great job and yeah like Ponting not a very thinking captain but he seems like a great man-manager. I mean if we are going by tactical moves then Clarke would be amazing but he is in a team where the opening batsman decides to punch an opponent, a batsman who doesn't have work ethic, a old man keeper who is there to keep the team in check, an allrounder who decides to break down a lot and can't decide his role, a captain who decides to move his best young batsman around because he wants to bat at his spot and a team has a terrible culture. Hussey knew it and he bolted before it happened. Ponting, Dhoni, Cook and Smith are great man-managers which make great captains. I would put Sammy there if he doesn't do stupid **** on the field.

Nice article above but different teams and their needs are different in India captain has to be proactive in building a team and a squad as selectors are not the brightest or understand what a team needs, Ganguly was aware of this along with the coach and he worked on building a stronger bowling and punted for his player while Dhoni vouches and loves playing mediocre trundlers who weaken the team and limit our chances of success especially away tours

I do not think dravid is that kind of person.U can name any captain be it dhoni,fleming,lloyd,waugh with the indian team we had we had no chance in wi.We did not have a good fielding nor bowling side also few guys like dravid,gangly were at the end and dhoni was not the player he is now in odis.
