A bowler without good seam position can never be successful and that is the first and foremost thing for a fast bowler, other things only come later.

I think he is a better choice than ishant in SA pitches. Hit the deck bowlers needed in Aus, not in SA. SA, you need to pitch up to get swing and seam. There is a reason short or average height bowler like Philander has done better than a quick tall bowler like Morkel. There, you will have to pitch up and force the batsmen to play most times.

Once you are in dhoni's good books your place is somewhat confirmed. Regarding ishant he will be benched in coming tests.

He's lost the pace, which has led to him becoming an ineffective bowler. The only other hit the deck bowlers in India with height are pandey and pankaj. Baffling to see neither selected. Ishant is doing more disservice to himself by not telling selectors to let him go back to ranjis and improve. It also proves that he will be there in South Africa. We might see pandey in nz or England if ishant miserably fails. For the batting, good choice picking rohit. The boy is born to play this format. My guess is selectors want both rohit and Rahane in lineup after tendulkar retires. Even if one of them doesn't get to play against WI, they will be part of squad so they can get used to be practicing for national team
