ravishingravi Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 So what looked liked a meaningless series has really ended up revealing a few things about Indian team. It has also been a blessing in disguise for Australian team which has really sent a bunch of youngsters except Johnson and Watson and now they have a core team to plan for the WC. They have found some batting talent, although I would be cautious about performances against this bowling attack. What have we learnt ? 1) This is the worst bowling attack in the world. False sense of confidence that Champions trophy may have provided has been completely eroded by now. Apart from lack of skill which one now expects, it is mental fragility of that is disconcerting. 2) We have two suspect batters in Raina and Yuvraj. One has serious doubts if they will be able to compete in WC in Australia. 3) There is something terribly wrong with world cricket or bowlers or size of grounds or the rules which has to be now looked at. CA has conveyed what they think of the series when they pulled Johnson out of the series. They dont care for it. They have got more than what they thought. Competed and alsmost dominated large parts of the matches. A batting core to work with and some money for the board. Whatever the series result, I see this series as completely loss for Indian cricket and call for serious introspection on various fronts.
Cricketics Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Our bowling has been found out. We will be working on it a lot(hopefully) as plenty of more important series will be coming. Keeping world cup in mind, bowling will be given some importance over batting from here after this poor performance. This is a blessing in disguise for us.

MCcricket Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Pace matters Johnson , Shami showed that and so did trundler VK , hopefully selectors and Dhoni get their thinking right, combination of two stron batting sides, batting tracks, t20 style batting and very mediocre bowling especially from India and so conversely brilliant batting by India

Lets see today's performance Shami 52 for 3 Ashwin 51 for 2 BK going for less than 6 on this pitch Jadeja with 3 wickets Only bowler who sucked was Vinay Kumar who went for 101 in 9 overs. So clearly all is not that bad

Some more FC cricket will be good. Cant write him off for the WC yet. Vinay is not good enough for int'l cricket. Ishant needs time away fro international cricket to get back his confidence. Amit Mishra with his poor fitness should not be playing shorter formats.

So clearly all is not that bad Don't take just today's performance. We haven't done too grea tin bowling. Bowling is still a concern and not many people trust our bowling. and hence I hope there is some focus on it keeping Australia in mind as the venue.

The same bowling did well in CT and before. Ishant and Vinay have been found out. Shami is a good find. BK even when not picking wickets has been economical. On helpful wickets, he, Jadeja and Ashwin will be great

Raina needs to be given that role. Yes he will fail, plus obviously his fielding is a plus. His game is not suited for a top 4 role.
Number Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 If provided good bowling conditions, Shami and Bhuvi can form a good opening bowling pair. Need to get a proper end overs bowler and it can be a good ODI attack. Nothing great batting wise, on such pitches even avg batsmen can score 150s.

Except Vinay, Ishant rest have actually bowled quite decently given the kind of pitches. 2 things should be done though for next ODI series. 1. Play 1 of Raina/Yuvi and that at no.6 2. Never pick Ishant/Vinay again
