Cricketics Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Bowl in power plays. Seriously, he is too good for bowlers to give him wicket on such flat tracks. Batsman tries to negotiate his over so that they can attack other bowlers. If he comes in powerplays, he can be attacked and hence he could earn a wicket.
vvvslaxman Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Jury is still out on all the bowlers Umesh, Shami, Bhuvan everyone. IN the first Shami took 9. In the 2nd test just 2 wickets. Most of the wickets he took were tailenders and and out of form Samuels. So we still have to wait and see. I want bowlers who bowl well in foreign conditions more than India. In India ultimately spinners will decide the fate. Our batsmen can outbat most of the oppositions. If they bowl sh&&te abraod do well only at home frankly they are useless in the grand scheme of things. Even Zak often gets less overs in Indian conditions as spinners will take over very soon.
GrandMasterSaxy Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Why is India not able to produce consistent decent fast bowlers ????? :hitler:

Bhuvi has taken 9 wickets in 6 tests against medicore batting lineups. He is a limited bowler who needs to be used properly or he will be the first one to be dropped when we loose anywhere. I have my doubts how effective he will be abroad against quality teams like eng and africva as really if he was good he would have done much better in tests. Odis is diff beast he is our best bowler .

Are you saying Bhuvan didn't bowl well in the 2nd test in Mumbai. he bowled very well. Why no wickets. Ask the fielders who dropped the catches, ask the umpires who didn't give lbw.

We will see how things unfold as the days go by. Regardless of what we think here is what is going to happen. Bhuvan , SHami, Umesh will be in the starting line up outside India. We will see how things unfold. Given the history of Indian fast bowling all 3 could disappear into thin air like the other bowlers. Then we will be debating whether we should play Awana or Suyal for tests in India. This has been the trend as far as Indian fast bowling goes.
rkt.india Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 BK is fine as of now. We will give him more matches to learn and improve. This is how bowlers evolve their game. Let him play until he is bowling really badly like PK used to do in India.

rkt.india Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 pk was never good ' date='he bowled one or two horrible balls every over without fail.[/quote'] PK was good to at the start but when there was not swing and he did not get wickets, he started spraying the ball at 125K. He used to bowl 5 wides. PK averages 60 plus in ODIs in India.
NareshK Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Pitches in India for ODIs are flat and good for batsmen and some help spinners. Pitches for tests mostly help spinners and seamers only bowl the first 5 or 6 overs where there is some swing and nothing later. Its quite stupid to expect seamers to do miracles here. You need the cold, wintry conditions in North where the ball swings more to help seamers but we hardly play test matches in those conditions. If a bowler has the capacity to reverse the ball at good pace, he can be effective with the old ball. Otherwise, we should expect our seamers to keep it tight for the spinners to do the damage and not much more. Or we should change the nature of pitches and the ball we play with. SG ball doesn't swing much when it is new compared to Duke's or Kookaburra. The overall situation is we are a batsmen obsessed country and our superstars have been batsmen and people like watching batsmen score runs and most people don't care about seam/swing bowling. So our pitches also tend to favor them.
Temujin Khaghan Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 in test cricket, only way for fast bowlers to keep their head high in India is the ability to bowl reverse swing
CSK Fan Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 As I have said in other threads, we and our management and captain do not know how to groom and keep our bowlers except spinners. That is why our bowlers will always regress instead of improving If I was BK, my confidence would completely regress from the lack of confidence my captain shows in me. For a batsman, we allow him whatever freedom he wants. Despite Raina's limitations, he is given so many chances up the order. On the other hand, the role of BK has kept on decreasing in the team. If I were in his place, I would start questioning my place in the team. Five overs in the last ODIs? How many overs each test? Written off even before getting a fair chance? He is a young bowler with a sharp brain so I am pretty sure he will learn a lot if given chance. Slower balls, other skills. But all of these can only happen in match situations. If you do not even give him a chance, how will he learn? People like Vaas, etc were great death bowlers because of this. We give Sharma 100 chance to learn different aspects of the game but not young bowlers. Our bowlers are always branded because of this mis-management. All medium bowlers from every team gets a chance at the death but not BK. How will he even learn? Make no mistake, Shami is going the other way. If Zaheer and Yadav come into the team, Shami will be branded a death bowler or a reverse swing bowler and will hardly get opportunity with the new ball. Dhoni does not even take pitches into account before doing this Our captain does not understand attacking bowling. His USP is strangling opposition with tight lines, particularly with spinners. Shami was great with the old ball, but this is not the strategy Dhoni will build around IMO, BK's confidence has been shattered, he doesn't even look the same bowler, he doesn't run in with the same confidence. He is concentrating on keeping runs down because he himself thinks that's his role. In short, he is going the same route of every Indian bowler in history. Unfortunately, I don't see anything different in the coming days. Our people do not know how to back bowlers and bring the best out of them. They will always play second fiddle to batting. The lack of a bowling role model and a captain who doesn't understand bowling will always hurt us. In only the last few matches, he has regressed completely as a bowler. He at least used to look threatening before. He knows he has zero confidence from his captain
rkt.india Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Shami was not even given new ball in first ODI and that was really perplexing. The guy who brought you wickets with new ball in previous series was given ball in 9th over.
saneindian Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 When he's not picking the captain is to be blamed. Was Dhoni responsible when BK was taking all the wickets? BK is going through the challenges young players face in int'l cricket, earlier he was an unknown factor, now teams plan for him and generally look at playing him out without many risks. He's suffered a but of inconsistency in his line and length but thats a part of a young bowler's learning process. He's been unlucky at times, flat pitches have not helped but overall he's done well. With lots of away matches ahead, he will start taking wickets again.
G_B_ Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 I doubt its even an unknown factor. He is just not generating the type of swing he used to in the first few overs. As somebody rightly said, Mumbai is the swing bowlers paradise in India. Wankhede is located right next to the sea and there is plenty of breeze there. If you cant make it count there against a poor Windies batting with the new ball then its going to be hard against most other teams. This is what happens when your reliant on only one trait. Once that dries up you have nothing to fall back on. I think the only solution for Bhuvi is to generate more pace (which to be fair he has, last match v Windies i was bowling just above the 130 mark) and learn the art of reserve swing. Maybe Bhuvi needs to become a 135 bowler.
saneindian Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 GB the conditions have been completely different. Send him back to similar conditions like we had vs Pak, Eng, in CT or WI, and he will get the similar movement he was getting earlier. At Mumbai, he got enough swing and seam, plenty of LBW shouts, a couple of dropped chances and a wicket of Chanders with an amazing delivery with the old ball. As I said he's been slightly inconsistent with his line and length at times but he's still young in his career and is only going to learn more about his bowling as he plays more.

First of this branding as a one trait bowler without even being allowed many overs with the old ball for a guy who is new to cricket is nonsense. He was ok with old ball in domestic and gets movement Would you be as critical with a batsmen like Dhawan? Call him a one dimensional player? Plus none of the solutions you recommend, generate more pace, bowl better with old ball is possible until the captain shows some faith in him and allows to even ball long spells. He has lost his swing because he has lost his confidence. He knows that he will only get a few overs every game and he is trying too much, and also trying to be a containing bowler like his captain wants him to be. Not the first promising bowler we have destroyed

Even in the tests when part timers were going for runs, he never tried BK. BK does not even go for much runs so there was no harm in giving him a bowl Young bowlers learn trades and pick up confidence from match situations just like young batsmen. Unless you allow him to bowl in all situations, there is no way he will improve There is no doubt that Dhoni has a very defensive strategy when it comes to bowlers. His handling of Yadav, BK prove this. He will be happy as long as BK bowls 7-8 overs for 4-5 runs per over. But that is not how a bowler like him should be handed Will not blame Dhoni, each and every one of our captains have been the same. But don't hold your breath for an amazing new bowler to emerge suddenly. Every bowler will lose pace, be defensive and end up being a trundler. Even Shammi
