yup leaving as many as possible and knowing where your off stump is.
Exactly. And always give the first hour to the bowlers esp when pitch favors them - only on rare occasion sehwag like throw caution to wind in first hour may work

Depends where you are playing. In places like England/NZ, where there's a lot of lateral movement, its important to play as late as possible. Also, one should look to get to the pitch of the ball almost always. But, again, leaving the balls once you have to reach out for it is more important. Places like Oz, SA, where there's more bounce and not always lateral movement, I think a sound back foot game is paramount. You may leave on length in such places coz of the bounce, but you have to be nimble with your footwork. Also, balancing the weight is important. You may not need to get fully to the pitch of the balls to play of the front foot here.

Don't be committed ,play late, know which one to leave which one to play, rotate the strike as much as possible, bowlers hate this, play with soft hands . Sent from my SM-N900 using Tapatalk

OP is about fast pitches. NZ, England are mostly slow pitches with lateral movement. Only Australia have fast pitches. In SA too, pitches are not that fast but they have good bounce and huge lateral movement. Playing on fast pitches is easier than playing on pitches which have lateral movement.

In SA, yes there's more lateral movement as compared to Oz. That could be one of the reasons why sub continent batsmen have been more succesful in Oz than in SA.

You get more lateral movement in SA even than England and NZ.
