Did a decent job for sure..He did everything right, except he should have attacked the stumps in last three overs when it was sure that SA has decided that they are going for a draw , instead of asking Shami to bowl bouncers..Except that captaincy was flawless, Ashwin wasn't getting any assistance is not his fault..For the first time, he maintained attacking line in 4th innings and kept the pressure on Africans..

I thought dhoni did the sensible things by 1.not bowling spinners in first innings on green track and 2.not using too much partimers and 3. giving long spells to fast bowlers. One trick he missed was giving zak too much overs when he was being hammered aftter tea and not using shami more.

One thing which I liked in the Test was the field placement. I think Dhoni did a good job, especially the fielder at Mid On which was very straight saved lots of run as bowler were bowling lot of over pitch and half volleys.

If he is not the not the worst test captain in India's history overseas, then I don't know who it would be. At home Azhar's team also battered sides. Rahul Dravid's team won the series in England and west indies. His greatest achievement might be drawing the test series in SA last time around. The more I see of him, more I am convinced, it is not a weak team which a brave captain is carrying. It is a potentially good team thwarted by tactically clueless captain.

Ditto. The two historic white washes and the home loss to England within an 18 month period convinced me that Dhoni is just a lucky captain when he succeeds. He is clueless while rowing against the wind. And which captain can't row with the wind?

With the kind of bowling attack India have, it's a miracle they're ranked number 2. Dhoni works with what he has, and unfortunately from the bowling perspective he was dealt a very poor hand.

^ Under him bowlers never prosper... His team selections never allows good bowling talents getting timely exposure and prepare for the important series... He and his fans can keep on blaming the bowlers and bowling but it's his fault the way he handles the bowlers, leave them to fend for themselves, shows favouritism... He's a batsnen's captain and clearly believes that only batting wins the matches (in whichever format of cricket). He's a fair weather captain... A Sub-continental captain who likes to excel in his home conditions, relying on his gang of slow bowlers and part timers.. He hates travelling abroad unless the series is against lowly teams.. Now the top teams have started kicking his **** in his home too... Bakrey Ki Amma Kab Tak Khair Manayengi... The way is going on destroying young talented pace bowlers...

:hysterical: so Dhoni gets his *** beat repeatedly 10-1 against AUs and Eng,and it is because his team mates let him down but all of a sudden the team does well,it's his inspirational captaincy...waah waah How many runs and how many catches did the inspirational leader take? Also nothing ground-breaking about what he did....I already gave him credit for sticking to the basics than trying any bone-headed moves he usually does. He still gave Vijay and Himself the ball again though he had better parttimers like Rohit and Kohli ...inexplicable logic

It is no miracle. Play and win a lot of matches at home, prepare bunsen burners to oust the opposition ( and try to intimidate the curators if they don't comply) etc - these are responsible for our number two ranking. With the kind of bowling attack we have, we have never won a single test against a worthy opponent away over the past three years.

This But it shows how rubbish he was before that doing basic cricket tactics makes us all jump for joy:giggle:
