What's your expection from Dhoni as a batsman in test matches?

Yes, he could have definitely added to those. Hence he isn't called a great by me. I expect him to score some runs, but I am happy with him score scratchy 40 odd everytime. He almost did that today. He isn't a great test bat, but not that bad for a no. 7. We just don't have a replacement who is sending or knocking doors badly.

And that is why I don't see much value in that 40 average. I mean, surely even Saha can't do much worse than Dhoni's success rate of 2 out of 27. Even if he is batting with the tail, an attacking number 7 batsman is supposed to take that out of the equation to an extent like Kapil or Botham used to. That's also the reason I don't rate Imran's batting much despite his superior average to Kapil and Botham because very rarely could he do strong rearguards with the tail. Yeah, no one is knocking on the doors loudly but what you will gain from a superior keeper will be more than what you will lose from having some other batsman in place of Dhoni, given how Dhoni's success rate in live match situations is so low to start off with.

O yeah DK. Yes, he is better than most in India for a long format. Not really. He can't bat that bad at no. 5 either. I keep saying no. 5 not to tease you but because no. 3, and 4 slot is sealed for few series by Pujara and Kohli. Anyways, no wicket keeper is going to make it to test team, unless Dhoni is injured or India is having a miserable run with Dhoni scoring shyt and other wicket keeper in our domestic scoring as much as what these Pujara or some other players were scoring during their run in Ranji.

So you will drop a guy after 2 failures after making a brilliant start to his career and rather keep a guy who has been failing to acoomodate D.K....Fantastic :two_thumbs_up:

Are you saying the 2 50 partnerships in 2 tests wer use less ? We would have been bowled out for 280 if not for that today . you cannot expect more than that in these conditions where our top order struggles to score runs .

He would score a 50 in trying situation will disappear for next 15 innings. We don't want someone like that. 3 average outings on this tour. could have been better in this innings where Rahane was going well. When you lose Dhoni you lose a keeper and skipper. Dynamics will completely change. You don't even know what to expect with new keeper, batsman, captain. Dhoni could be better. Replacing him right after we have made complete transition would be tricky and risky. We just have to hope he turns a corner atleast now .

Dhoni slogs his way out of trouble in tough conditions,Just a better version of Zak,so he gets some runs which fan boys present as high average. Seen it multiple times.....If he was even half-capable,he and Ashwin who showed more temparament would have got us out of trouble atlest 2/5 times. He is better than Raina and Yuvraj I will give him that but thats not saying a lot

People need to see Dhoni in a better way. Problem is not that his technique or anything. His temperament for a no. 7 is also all right. He just sometimes gets impatient too early and slogs his way to the delivery. Same kind of delivery he might have let it go or taken a quick single, but as soon as wickets start falling, he tries to do different things. This sounds like temperament problem but it isn't. It's more being too "Fidgety"

Haddin is doing it at home. Away from home he's been equally poor. Averaged 20 in the last Ashes in England and has an overall average of 28 away from home. Prior was a beast in such situations and before losing form, did well nearly everytime England needed him.

Prior averages 22 in SA and Haddin averages 26. Dhoni averages 30 in SA. In England, Prior's average is 40 (home conditions), Haddin averages 32 and Dhoni averages 39. Overall average - Prior 40, Hadding 36, Dhoni 39. What is this fuss all about ? :hmmm:

Pick Priors highest scores in recent past and compare with Dhoni as under what circumstances they played those innings. You have to be subjective here. ALso Priors team has been doing exceptionally well batting wise till the recent series

How about Dhoni's double ton when India was in trouble against Aussies in first test at Chennai ? How about finishing the third test in the same series at Mohali in the final overs ? Do these not count ?

Dhoni is not even fit to tie shoelaces for Prior as far as batting in Tests is concerned. Dont give those averages. Prior has played so many counter-attacking impactful innings for England in times of trouble that its not even a comparison. Just look at Haddin in the recent Ashes or just the current match for that matter, he has played more number of crucial innings in this Series than Dhoni has in his career.

In favourable conditions, I expect him to get a 50, often even more. In difficult batting conditions, I expect nothing from him, even though he gets the runs some times, you never know when he will get out and instills no confidence whatsoever while he is at the crease.

183/5 and 162/5.even these could have been converted to 300+ with one patnership.
