Aggressive fields are set, bowlers bowling from both ends but still bowl some poor deliveries and now SA are 82-0. Without trouble. Why can't our bowlers bowl to a plan/field and restrict run scoring? No early wickets, no chances. Only jadeja and to some extent ishant have looked threatening. Not much carry to Dhoni, no zip, no wickets. Its a mediocre effort. I'm really dissapointed because on paper, the pacers are capable of taking wickets but we have never struck well with the new ball. Bhuvi is ineffective with the old ball so I wouldn't have played him. Yadav should have played instead of ishant or zak. And there's no guarantee we'll get them with the old ball. Hate to rant but its sad to see how ineffective our pacers are with the new ball.

They got wickets only when it started reversing. Vernon was totally useless on this wicket. Morkel. Steyn got wickets through aggression and pace. They had to bowl several such overs to even make an impact in the end. my only worry in this match their run rate.
express bowling Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 When there is no movement available then you need pace and bounce to get batsmen out. Our only out and out fast bowler in this team , with a SR of 46, is warming the benches. The only other one available is coming back from injury and would hopefully be in the team in NZ. Shami has pace but he is not the physically threatening type on flat decks. He will have to wait for reverse swing. Ishant would require a bit mote zip off the deck to be successful anywhere.

I know that but how many times do we see teams lose early wickets? Quite often. With us overseas, its always a 30-50+ partnership. Last innings we needed a runout to get back into things. Bowlers have to create chances and trouble the batsmen, ours just offer gifts and concede. Its too easy for the opposition. We need a new bowling coach!

The natural length of Indian pace bowlers is not suited to most pitches in Australia and South Africa and it takes them some time to assess the pitch and bowl the appropriate length. Only Indian fast bowler I've seen consistently take wickets with the new ball was Kapil.
rkt.india Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 They need to hit the deck harder on this pitch, looping the ball wont work. Shami and Zak both did the same for first 4 overs. For India, game will start once the ball start reversing. They need to bowl economically before that. New ball has not done much in this match. Steyn could not swing a single ball in his match with new ball. Old ball is the key.

The pressure was released after the 3 wickets. Field placings became less aggressive. The pacers bowled less bouncers. I don't get it. It should have been the other way round.

I don't get it. It should have been the other way round. This is why we'll never win anything. Other teams would bring in a johnson, or anyone who can trouble any batsmen. Ishant can trouble with his bounce, but there's no initiative. Either too full or short and wide. Should be trying to take wickets all the time.

Though it was the white ball, he did swing 4-5 in the ODIs.

This venue is completely different. Only pace , bounce and spin are working.

Both zak and ishant are bowlers who can take wickets during a collapse but yadav can get any batsmen out because of his pace and improved accuracy. Always good to have a geuine quick but india will never realise that
