You must be watching a different match. Even his 6 is technically not a failure . Probably he bore the brunt of the best spell of the series. 39, 97 not really failures. More importantly he didn't gift the wicket. Dhawan gifted the wicket. There lies the difference.

But he failed after such a long vigil. Scoreboard it looks bad. But it was that dogged stay that set up the match for us. You have to consider he had zero practice prior to test series. No practice match, no ODI series. Atleast Dhawan had a hit in the one dayers.

Where did he fail in 3 innings? In the 1st test 1st innings he saw off the new ball. Whatever we scored in the 2nd innings was possible only because of Vijay and Pujara's partnership seeing off the hostility and all. There also he played 93 balls for a well made 39. Here again a brilliant 97. Add to the fact that he never threw away his wicket. He was fairly unlucky in 2 of those 4 innings. If anything Vijay's batting has come as a big relief for Indian cricket. If he plays as well in the remaining 12 tests as over here, we will do wonders.

Did you watch ? how Steyn/Morel/Philander bowled? Vijay came into test match without any practice and surprised us...i was expecting vijay going to have very horrible series.. Give credits where it due

Im proud of MV, he has surpassed my expectations for sure. His 97 here will hold him in good stead and I hope he scores loads in Eng and Aus. For that matter proud of the batting generally for the same reason- Rahane in particular being another. Pujara and Kohli we hoped/expected things of.
