First was in the Nineties when Azhar captained the side, he will loose every single away series badly, come back home with his influence prepare dust ball wickets and win home series this went along for 10 years, we had reasonable time in 80s and in 2000s decades under Kapil, Gavaskar and Ganguly. now with Dhoni I have seen similar trend like in 90s we are loosing every single away series badly but winning home series, to be honest we don't need good captain to win series in India you give captaincy to any new "bachha" like Bhuvi, Dhawan or any XYZ will be able to win series in India. Seriously selectors need to evaluate Dhoni's performance overseas, look at how many times he is thrown up on a situation and he is completely lost, for example in the first test he could not get 10 wickets in two days despite 450 runs to defend in fact almost came close loosing it lack imagination in bowling changes and field placement did not try any part timers and this has happened too often in last 2-3 years. its time may be they look at replacing him with Kohli or Pujara even his own batting is not good when playing away may look for another option like Sanju Samson or Dinesh Karthik. With next 12-15 months playing away selectors needs to find who is going to survive in those condition who has mental thoughness, to me so far Dhawan, Rohit, Dhoni, Zaheer, Ashwin all needs to pull up their shocks and play better otherwise needs to have their replacement ready, if this continues I am seeing many careers over in next year and half, to be honest we have lot of good batters to choose from but does not have good luxury in bowling department. apart from playing 11s I see few other good bowling prospect like Pankaj Singh, Varon Aaron, Pawan Suyal, Rahul Shukla, Bhargav Bhatt, Parvez Rasool,

Dhoni is the issue. His batting sucks, captaincy is uninspiring and doesn't have the killer instinct to finish the match quickly and take lots of wickets. His ideology is that when 1 wicket falls, the other batsmen will mentally crumble and "make mistakes". This has led to numerous 50+ partnerships. Now i know SA are quality. Some resistance is certainly expected. But they let JP duminy score runs, peterson, steyn almost got a 50. Now you'll probably reply and say "it was the bowlers, what can MSD do?" Well, he's the one picking them. He's the one who backs that bowling retard ishant and zak after zak was done in the 1st test. He BENCHED UMESH YADAV. No initiative to pick quality fast bowlers who can help get him a series win which would boost his credentials and 0-8 would be way past him then. Shami the best bowler bowled least overs IIRC and didnt bowl in middle session when Faf n AB were going strong.that was a crucial mistake imo otherwise he was good

Dhoni's record in the subcontinent, and India in particular is awesome in Tests. The man has a top-notch record as captain in India, and his batting avg is stratospheric (around 47 in Asia). But, he is absolutely horrible as a captain-batsman-keeper outside Asia. Must improve phaast or be shown the door.

This team has some serious batting talent. Make no mistake about that. In 90s, only Sachin was capable of batting like this and perhaps Azhar but he used to be inconsistent. Other batters used to make up numbers. We need another couple of pacers to go with Shami and we will do well. This series was good for the team. They were up against the best side in the world with a lot of experience. Their bowlers and batsmen are some of the best in the world. So to compete with them in their home conditions takes some effort and they have done well, even though its disappointing to see the final result. We had our chances but couldnt capitalize on a few occasions but that happens. Let's see how they go from here and perform in the next series. I have a good feeling about this team.

Its ridiculous to club Eng and Aus whitewashes with this series. In those series, we barely competed and struggled to put 300 on board and while bowling, gave away 500 or 600 regularly. The team is not the same anymore. This was a much closer series and the team fought well.

No, that honour would go to Dravid who won us series in WI, England, etc. If not for that fracas with Vengsarkar, I think he would have had a far better captaincy and batting record than what he has.

Lets not make it a Ganguly vs Dhoni issue, We must accept the fact that we have a serious issue with Dhoni Captainship capability, he has been given enough chance to prove this outside India and he has failed miserably, he just keep the "Mukhota" of captain cool but fail to deliver. look at in last two games how tail batted where they have a thrown away wicket in hurry, that coward Zaheer even though is a senior most Dhoni should have warn him throwing away wicket every single time he bats, if you don't have guts to stand in front of the wicket please don't play test cricket. Ganguly in his recent interview backed Umesh and said he would pick Umesh for every single game touring outside but with Dhoni he find him self on the bench or out of the team, that is the serious lack of quality identifying correct talent. he has backed wrong people too often too long i.e Ashwin, Ishant, Raina, RP Singh, Pravin Kumar, Vinay Kumar etc...
