This guy deserves a chance for what he has done at the domestic level for years..For all we know, this guy might turn out to be another useless bowler , but what is the harm in giving a chance for a test series and see how he goes. If we do not value our domestic achievements, why have the tournaments? Lets just have IPL and u-19 tournaments and select directly from them. Mohit sharma, Rahul sharma, saurabh tiwary etc got a chance because of IPL..:wall:

I am not sympathetic at all.

Walsh was not quite a 90mph bowler but he was damn close in his prime. Add to the fact that Walsh got practically every single ball on good length to bounce like that Pankaj delivery, which seemed like a one-off. Batsmen fending at a chest high ball thats comming in at 87-88mph from good length or slightly fullish length outside off stump ( ie, inswinger), only to be caught by one of Hooper/Lara at slip was Walsh's trademark dismissal. And if Pankaj can do that consistently, the guy should be averaging 16-17 in domestic cricket, for that type of a delivery is practically impossible to play unless you are expecting it.

Pankaj used to be very slow in 2007, mainly in 125-130k range., but he has gained about 10K of pace in last 2 years since 2011 with the help of their South African bowling coach Mayrick Pringle who worked on his bowling action and strengthening. Now he can bowl 135K consistently up to 141-142K at the quickest. I saw him in 2012 in season opener where he was brilliant. Trouble the batsmen with pace and bounce.

I never found him really quick, was probably around 135 to 140 or so. Ambrose was quicker than Walsh who himself was not a 90 mph bowler. Walsh's strength was his accuracy and the bounce he used to got because of his height, very much like McGrath. McGrath was same pace as well. Comparison is not bowling but just about pace and height. Pankaj is also similar pace, even Ishant and height is pretty similar too. No one is saying they are as good as Walsh. Thing is this is perplexing we have guys like Ishant and Pankaj who have all the ingredients to replicate guys like Walsh who was not really quick but used his height with control to great effect but Ishant has been a brute failure till now. Ishant cannot bowl 2 balls in an ever in the same area. He is that inconsistent.

I remember Badri crying out in the media similarly about being given at least a chance to fail, getting his chance and then being totally left out forever. Just hope Pankaj is given a couple of opportunities before he fades away.

Thats 128-130kph bowler. What Walsh did in the mid 90s was still faster on average than any Indian bowler bowls today- that includes Umesh.

Late 80s to mid 90s Ambrose was as fast as Steyn which is express speed and average of 90mph. Walsh was far faster than Cameron Cuffy or Nixon McLean. Also, Pankaj may be able to crank out 140kph once in a while but he seems more like a 130-135kph bowler over the entire spells, walsh was a good yard faster than him. You have no idea about the speeds of the bowlers you are talking about since you are too young to've seen them at their prime.

Vijy Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Walsh was around 130 kmph towards the end of his career, but his skill and experience still enabled him to get many quick wickets. If Pankaj can bowl around 135 kmph consistently and offer other skills, I'd be satisfied and pick him. For instance, Asif comes to mind when he was at his peak - guile was his forte.
