fineleg Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 IPL? Please. Its aimless mercenary-$$$-based crapshoot. Among the tamasha league - atleast WC-T20 has a semblance of aim/goal for countries and patriotic teams compared to IPL. (just relatively speaking, not absolute)

It isn't difficult to send some of our fringe and quality players who aren't in the national squad atm or aren't getting chances. We complain about not having death bowlers but we try some of the worst ones with no skill. Send aaron, rahul shukla and others and try them. If they win, their careers will kickoff and it will be good for indian cricket. I'm tired of losing every world t20 with pakistan sneaking through. For once, I want a new t20 team like every other playing nation. But india... :dontknow: Good selection there, zol could work as he and samson have come from UAE where they won the asia cup so they will be riding high and with momentum. Don't know about unmukt but rishi dhawan would be good to try out whilst we have binny in the ODI squad. Bowlers: Aaron, Rishi dhawan (as a mid/lower order bat as well), rahul shukla, pankaj singh/kaul, bhuvi. Rahul sharma, mishra, jadeja
vvvslaxman Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I think it is after IPL T20 cricket picked up.Players started taking it seriously.First T20 world cup was hardly taken seriously by any country.Even India did not send best Indian pacer Zaheer for it RP Singh was unplayable. We atleast had one bowler who was good. Sreesanth also took wickets.

Picking people like Rishi Dhawan, etc won't be of much use - their T20 records are nothing to write home about. Besides, the key culprit is our bowling. Even the T20 batting isn't very good - apart from Kohli and Raina, most of the other batsmen have poor records. Take Dhobi - he averages around 35-40 in IPL at a high SR, and around 30 in T20 internationals at a much lower SR.

Unlike one day where you can take a bit of time to settle down in T20 you can't waste more than 6 balls. If you have 5 iffy form players and they take 6 balls each to settle down that is 5 overs gone. Considering these are bangla pitches any inform FTB would do the job.

However, they should ensure that Nohit, Raina, Kohli and Yuvi play - our only consistent players in the format. For the keeper, Rayudu or Uthappa might be worth considering. Dhawan has also been in good form. This leaves 5 places for bowlers. Shami's T20 record is very good, but I don't know who the other 4 should be. Perhaps Jaddu even though his record is not good in T20s
vvvslaxman Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I won't bother much about these results. One fluke innings is all needed. With IPL , there is overexposure of everybody's strengths and weaknesses. Only Pakistan and ENgland don't suffer from this.
